Thousands Protest Over Bush Visit (Vienna, Cindy is There!)

Thousands of protesters have marched though the streets of Vienna chanting "Bush Go Home!" US President George Bush is in the Austrian capital for a summit with senior EU officials. In a press conference Mr Bush has renewed calls for tough action on Iran.

He said that the US is prepared to negotiate with the Islamic Republic as soon as they suspend their nuclear activity.

Mr Bush also responded to widespread European calls to close Guantanamo Bay.

He said the US would like to close the detention centre in Cuba, but that it wasn't possible because the detainees were "cold-blooded killers" who would "murder people if they were let out on the street".

4. Without free speech zones, it is possible Bush may even
have had to actually see how much he is not liked.

7. "3 of 10 Austrians" have favorable opinion of Bush
yet the picture captions seem to talk only about "leftist" protesters. Maybe it's a sort of across the board thing.

17. I do trust you. It's the media and government that lie to me.
(Although I'd really like to hear from the tattoo artist who did the tattoo and the person who sold her the shoes, just for corroboration.)

13. Quote: Mr Bush also responded to...
...widespread European calls to close Guantanamo Bay.

He said the US would like to close the detention centre in Cuba, but that it wasn't possible because the detainees were "cold-blooded killers" who would "murder people if they were let out on the street".

--------------------------

That's the excuse we've heard from him and Rumsfeld over and over again. But if that's the case, then nothing should be stopping them from putting them on trial and convicting them, as is typically done with 'killers'. (Unless they kill in large numbers and to the ... nevermind.)

Has anyone ever ASKED them what is stopping this from happening? After all, the way they've made it look, it would be almost ridiculously easy to convict these people in a court of law. I'd like to see if the question has ever been posed to one of the administration.

I have wonderful memories from my time in Vienna.

I heard Claudio Abado conduct the Vienna Philharmonic
in a mostly Beethoven program right here, front row,
just to the right. And the did the Radetzky March as
an encore. Sublime...

On edit: Maurizio Pollini played the Emperor Concerto...
amazing...
