Impeachment hearing set (Cecelia Fire Thunder)
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 06:45 PM by NVMojo
PORCUPINE -- An impeachment hearing for Oglala Sioux Tribe President Cecelia Fire Thunder has been set for next week on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. It is the third impeachment hearing she has faced during her first two-year term in office.

The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Porcupine Community Action Program Building in Porcupine. Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge has been designated the alternate site, Rhonda Two Eagle, OST secretary, said.

Informational letters about the hearing’s date were sent from the tribal secretary’s office on June 16 to Fire Thunder and OST Council representatives, Two Eagle said.

Officials have not determined which tribal court judge will preside over the hearing.

On May 30, the OST Council suspended Fire Thunder after a complaint that she had improperly used her title to solicit donations for a proposed abortion clinic. Fire Thunder had proposed the clinic in response to South Dakota’s new abortion ban, which has since been referred to a statewide vote in November.

5. Alot of people on the Council did NOT want her to win
They wanted Russell Means. They were very, very pissed when the people didn't vote for him. They've been gunning for the very Progressive and pro-women Fire Thunder since she started her term. They don't give a damn about the abortion clinic... they just want their boy in.

(I have Oglala friends on the Rez)

Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 08:57 PM by CountAllVotes
What is Russell Means' stance on this issue?

I find this very curious. I had not heard anything about him for many years now.

Hmmm.

9. I thought he had moved on by now
Wow, too bad really that he has not. The reservation near where I live in infested with lots of fundies too. Pretty disgusting. They are massive in quantity too, Four Square Church, Assembly of God, etc. They must be convincing. A friend of mine "sees Jesus" she tells me and is married to a minister. :puke:

The genocide of the Indian is almost complete. Almost.

18. Nope, he hasn't
And, the majority of people on the Rez wish he WOULD move on. They would like to improve the lot of their people, instead of having to always worry about petty politics and grandstanding. That's why they like Fire Thunder: she's a nurse who is very big on education, health, helping women/children/elders, and trying to get businesses onto the Rez to help the economy. She doesn't give a DAMN about the Oglala "good old boys," and that pisses them off.

Or so the people I know say. I know quite a few, and they live on different parts of Pine Ridge, and come from all walks of life and education levels (and, some are Christians, some aren't... just FYI).

14. He's been trying to get elected President for a long time at Pine Ridge
Many Lakota see him as very divisve... it's many his boosters that are going after Fire Thunder.

20. Wonder if there's any connection tween Russell Means & Abramoff
or any other GOP corrupt assholes.

Really, one might do some digging on who might fund anything Means is involved in.

I am posting stuff found by googling "Russell Means Republican"

Russell Means ready to give up on Republican Party
Thursday, June 3, 2004

American Indian Movement activist Russell Means is ready to give up on the Republican Party after Tuesday's poor showing for a GOP candidate.

Indian voters on reservations chose the Democrat, Stephanie Herseth, by wide margins. On the Pine Ridge Reservation, where Means has a home, she won 94 percent of the vote.

Means, who has run as a Libertarian, says the GOP is ignoring Indian voters. He has endorsed Republican John Thune for November's matchup against Sen. Tom Daschle (D) but wonders if it will be worth it.

"The Republican Party is having a hard time, believe it or not; I don't, raising money. So they tell us," Means told KOTA TV.

22. From Indian Country Today's Hall of Shame:
Russell Means, who is Oglala Lakota, for challenging the Navajo Nation's sovereignty, treaty, jurisdiction and ability to defend Navajo people by disputing its tribal court's conviction of him in connection with allegations that he beat his wife and her father, a disabled World War II veteran with one arm. Means tried to get the federal district court to overturn the tribal court's decision, but lost his case, appealed that decision and lost again, on Dec. 13, in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

23. It would seem Means and his crowd talk a good game against "Patriarchy"i
but in the end only want to replace WHITE Patriarchs with Brown ones.

And after reading about AIM, and its breaking into factions... one can't help but marvel over how this helps those in the US Govt. who WANT American Indian political groups to infight.

that the fundies don't have their noses in women's private parts often enough.

13. Two prior FAILED impeachment attempts.
Started last October:
At the Dec. 30 impeachment hearing, the tribal council dismissed the complaint.

Started a year ago:
The council decided the allegations filed were without merit.
