Self-proclaimed "terrorist" led away by US troops in Iraq after briefing
Sounds like a nut to me.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20031123/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_media_arrest&cid=1514&ncid=1480

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A man who called himself an official of "the movement of terrorists" at a press briefing inside the US-led coalition's heavily fortified Baghdad compound was led away afterwards by US troops.

The man, who named himself only as Abu Fahad, was clearly unarmed and the Arabic-language briefing by a coalition civilian spokesman went ahead for an hour in his presence before he was detained when he was leaving at the end.

Neither the spokesman nor the dozen journalists present, including an AFP reporter, showed any concern when the moustachioed man who appeared to be Iraqi raised his hand and said: "I will surprise you.

"I am Abu Fahad. I am the secretary general of the movement of terrorists that is made up mainly of poor people.

2. Why did this story even make it into the media?...
The guy has probably bought a one-way ticket to Gitmo by reason of insanity.

I thought I would comment on the last two paragraphs...

"It was unclear how he breached the massive security around the briefing venue in the coalition's city centre administrative headquarters.

All entering the building are required to go though at least five identity checks and no less than two body and bag searches on the way through the sprawling compound's concrete defences."

How did he get into the compound?? Duh!! Could one safely assume that he was unarmed? Could one safely assume that he passed the identity checks and additional searches with no difficulties??

Journalism in the 21st century. Yikes.

4. Was he arrested for what he said?
This has interesting First Amendment implications. But it is par for the course with the Bush Nazis.
