http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031125/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_us_deaths&cid=540&ncid=1480

As of Monday, Nov. 24, 431 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense. Of those, 297 died as a result of hostile action and 134 died of non-hostile causes, the department said. snip

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 293 U.S. soldiers have died — 183 as a result of hostile action and 110 of non-hostile causes, according to the Defense Department's figures.

3. Well, we lost five yesterday in Afghanistan
But those probably won't be counted as "combat" deaths. Must maintain Chimpy's poll numbers, you know.

4. This also does not reflect the number of troops that have died of their
wounds. Even with prompt, state of the art medical care, there has been deaths resulting from wounds.

14. I read somewhere that if a soldier receives treatment within
an hour, there is a 98% chance that his/her life will be saved. Multiply the wounded by approximately 2%. If there's 2000 wounded, that's another 40 dead. :(

12. Would you actually say that to heartsick parents who have just lost
their precious son or daughter? In that way and tone?

I think folks really need to think about things like this. Sure, we are angry at Bushco but we really need to think how we will discuss these thing with folks that have lost loved ones and more importantly how we will welcome these kids home when the time comes.

I certainly do not want them to come to the hostility Viet Nam vets came home to.

He died fighting for what he truly believed in, protecting his country and loved ones. Yes, that may have turned out to be lies, but he died with dignity and honor fighting for his beliefs.

16. That's the crazy sad part
They thought they were helping.

I think this feeling ( and the blood consequences ) we can lay at the feet of the scum who trumpet that the CEOs' interest is our interest, and making the world safe for Big Oil means no more 9-11s.

That is a laughable lie, but we are lucky if our kids get taught well enough to even read the Chicago Tribune or WPost.

If they can read it, few ever figure out how to tell the lies from the truth, or the editorials from the events.

7. Have you heard the latest?
Pentagon has generals running to the media denying that the soldiers shot while waiting in traffic were pummeled with pieces of concrete or that their throats were slit after being dragged from their vehicle. We'll never know the real truth even though witnesses say it happened. The Pentagon will cover it up. Can't have someone expose Bush as a liar when he claims we're winning hearts and minds, now can we?

13. Yep, checked on it early this evening, most papers are retracting
the story. They are saying one was shot in the neck/throat the other in the face - I could understand that may cause confusion and not all witnesses agreed they were slashed. But they are denying they were pummeled with concrete blocks! There was total agreement on that from the witnesses in the reports I could find.

I was not being ghoulish, but wanted to see how far they would go to cover this up. Did a Google search for Iraq+throat. Had to go in quite a few pages to get by all the newest stories that were "setting the record straight" to get to the original versions from yesterday.

10. What about the wounded?
Have none of the many casualties (wounded) died? If so, it is never reported. Makes me think that the number is considerably larger.
