Survivors of Baghdad's Jihad massacre seek refuge in tents by Nafia Abdel Jabbar
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Dozens of families from Baghdad's Sunni Jihad neighborhood abandoned their homes in the wake of last Sunday's massacre and sought refuge in tents.
Taking little more than a few personal effects, these men, women and children have left their homes to live in courtyard of the large Ibn Taymiyah mosque on the road to the airport.
"I took my family this morning because the situation in Jihad has become untenable because of the militias," said Shihab Ahmed Hammudi, a tea seller from the neighborhood.
"Some people were killed, some were robbed and our houses were set on fire," he added.
