The deduction is an approximation of annual Israeli spending on settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. A senior diplomatic source said no deductions would be made, however, for Israel's construction of a security barrier, as some had speculated.
"The fence will not be included.... This will enable us to go to Wall Street sometime next week
," the senior diplomatic source said.
The decision was reached during a meeting Tuesday between US National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's envoy, Dov Weisglass. Also present at the meeting were Israeli Ambassador to the US Danny Ayalon and Sharon's foreign policy adviser, Shalom Turjeman.
