Bush: Hezbollah, Syria, Iran Must be Confronted
By VOA News
22 July 2006

President Bush has repeated his stance that Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorist attacks.

Mr. Bush Saturday used his weekly radio address to talk about Israel's ongoing battle with Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon. Mr. Bush said U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will use her upcoming trip to the region to make clear that ending the violence means confronting Hezbollah and the countries that back it, Iran and Syria.

Mr. Bush says Hezbollah has jeopardized Lebanon's advances and betrayed the Lebanese people.

20. You mean like Congress did? I expect this war-mongering from Bush,
but Congress, jumping so quickly to claims Israel's right to "self-defense" is inexcusable after they'd already been schnookered into a war based on lies. Where was the discussion, debate, thoughtful deliberation? What intelligence/propaganda did they base their decision on? I wonder if in the future we will not hear them once again claiming they were duped as their defense? Who's the fool? Who's the tool? Who are monied masters they really answer to?

9. It's not our war!
And I won't support Bush's Bible-based endless wars!

But if Bush wants to destroy what's left of our military in new military adventures in the Middle East, it will save the lives of millions of people in Latin America that won't have to worry about US Marines landing on their shores.

Viva Chavez!

10. Bush: Hezbollah, Syria, Iran Must be Confronted? and before the elections.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bush nuked Iran a week before the November elections as the civil war already started in Iraq continues to blow more out of control.

Bush's only out is a major catastrophy, 9-11? nuking Iran?? - Neocons couldn't have picked a better choice then Bush for their dirty work.

14. That's the Gingrich campaign strategy - WWIII
http://mediamatters.org/items/200607190006

On Today, Lauer provided open forum for Gingrich's politically motivated "World War III" rhetoric

Summary: On NBC's Today, host Matt Lauer let Newt Gingrich repeat and promote his claim that current fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, with what Gingrich reported as a fear of Hezbollah attacks elsewhere, amounts to World War III. Despite media reports that Gingrich intends to promote the World War III rhetoric to give Republicans an edge in the 2006 congressional elections -- and that he is also urging President Bush and congressional Republicans to use war rhetoric for political gain -- Lauer failed to question the validity or motivation of Gingrich's characterization.

On the July 19 broadcast of NBC's Today, host Matt Lauer allowed Fox News political contributor and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) to repeat and promote his claim that current fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, with what Gingrich reported as a fear of Hezbollah attacks elsewhere, amounts to World War III. Despite media reports that Gingrich intends to promote the World War III rhetoric to give Republicans an edge in the 2006 congressional elections -- and that he is also urging President Bush and congressional Republicans to use war rhetoric for political gain -- Lauer failed to question the validity or motivation of Gingrich's assertions. Instead, Lauer repeated them, and at Gingrich's suggestion, displayed a map intended to "put that up graphically, and show you the fight against radical Islam, and look at where they have strong roots."

As Media Matters for America noted when Gingrich advanced his World War III rhetoric on the July 16 broadcast of NBC's Meet the Press, The Seattle Times reported that in a recent interview, Gingrich talked about the "need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy." The article reported that Gingrich was "very worried" about Republicans' chances in the fall elections and said that President Bush "needs to deliver a speech to Congress and 'connect all the dots' for Americans." Gingrich reportedly also told the Seattle Times that "public opinion can change 'the minute you use the language' of World War III," and that "in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III."

Gingrich's comments -- as reported by the Times -- were noted on July 17 by Countdown host Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, which NBC owns:

OLBERMANN: Our fourth story on the Countdown: World War III, episode three. History, or at least Newt Gingrich, once again jumping the gun. Apparently, the former Republican Speaker of the House among the first to suggest that it is not too soon to begin framing the current showdown between Israel and Hezbollah, a showdown that is not yet even a declared war between countries, as the next great worldwide conflict. That there is a political benefit to raising the specter of apocalyptic destruction not lost on Mr. Gingrich, who told The Seattle Times over the weekend that he is very worried about the GOP's chances in the fall elections, adding that public opinion can change, quote, "the minute you use the language of World War III." The message, Mr. Gingrich believes, becoming, "OK, if we're in the third world war, which side do you think should win?"

12. bush** has lost the support of the British on this. He may find that his
swaggering and big talk is not going to get across like it did with the unprovoked attack in Iraq.

The only ally he might have left after all is said and done is Israel. And history tells us that Israel is not any nation's friend.

13. Fine
bush can get on a plane fly over there, get a gun, and join an Israeli strike force
in southern Lebanon.

BTW when Israel tangles w/ Hezbollah on the ground in Lebanon it is going to get
it's nose bloodied. These are not helpless Palestinian refugees but tough fighters.

I didn't get a sense of any specific plans against Iran just yet, although I suspect Bush is keen for an Iran invasion.

17. By this theory Israel is free to attack Syria and Iran
with our blessing. Gee, weren't we all speculating earlier this year about how exactly the cabal would get its war on? Isn't it now rather obvious that this is how it is happening?

19. A new axis of evil? Hezbollah, Iran, Syria? So you don't have to be
a nation to make it to the axis level? Yeah, they must be confronted just like Iraq was confronted. We are killing so many Iraqis but they are kicking our asses too.

23. Hey North Korea - sit down and take a number!!!
I'm wondering if those who thought Russia and China were quietly prodding NK along to draw attention away from Iran weren't onto something. It was working, and then, BOOM!!! Israel steps up to the plate to bring the focus back around and now Bushco gives it time to escalate, as he chants "Hezbollah, Iran, Syria".
