The official level of the terrorist threat to Britain will be made public for the first time on Tuesday.
Current states of alert will be published on the Home Office and MI5 websites following a review of the way the Government keeps the public informed. The levels will be displayed from 9am on the websites www.mi5.gov.uk and the Home Office home page at www.homeoffice.gov.uk.
Last month, Home Secretary John Reid confirmed the official terror threat system was to be simplified from seven levels of alert to five. The five levels will be: low, moderate, substantial, severe and critical.
Barring any overnight changes, the current threat level is expected to be "severe", meaning an attack is "highly likely".
