Swedish nuclear reactors stopped
Four of Sweden's 10 nuclear reactors have been shut down, following an electricity failure.

The Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, SKI, has been holding an emergency meeting, following the incidents at the Oskarshamn and Forsmark plants.

He stressed there was "no danger of a meltdown" at Forsmark. He said two of the four backup generators had failed to start there, but two were sufficient to run the plant's cooling system. In addition, the plant has gas turbines that can be used to supply power in an emergency, he said.

On Friday SKI asked all of Sweden's other nuclear plants to prove that the same failure could not happen to them, Mr Bredfell explained.

4. Hm, interesting.
I was not aware that Sweden had so many nuclear reactors. I do know that they are trying as much as possible, to be free of hydrocarbons or petroleum ASAP.

I think Brazil was a very good example. They are completely petroleum-free. That's got to feel good....as the rest of the world is engulfed in the flames of oil dependency......

I thought the rain forest was cleared in order to bring in beefs.

Big cows that munch their way through the cleared rain forest.....

To become big, juicy hamburgers at Mc Donalds.

7. Actually, Brasil has become petroleum self-sufficient, not petroleum free
Just ask Petrobras. :-)

Here's a gloss from Wikipedia:

"Presently the use of ethanol as fuel by Brazilian cars - as pure ethanol and in gasohol - replaces gasoline at the rate of about 27,000 cubic metres per day, or about 40% of the fuel that would be needed to run the fleet on gasoline alone. However, the effect on the country's oil consumption was much smaller than that. Although Brazil is a major oil producer and now exports gasoline (19,000 m³/day), it still must import oil because of internal demand for other oil byproducts, chiefly diesel fuel (which cannot be easily replaced by ethanol)."

Peace.
