Swift decision expected on morning-after pill
(AP) — The maker of the morning-after pill said it received assurances Tuesday that the government would quickly settle a three-year battle to sell the emergency contraceptive without a prescription to at least some women.

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration stunned Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. by announcing that its long-delayed attempt was back on the table -- with some caveats.

The FDA said it would consider nonprescription sales of the pill, called Plan B, only for women 18 and older, and demanded details on how Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based Barr would ensure that pharmacies enforced that age restriction.

After meeting with FDA officials Tuesday, Barr said it would amend its Plan B application within two weeks.

2. The decision is expected on ... November 8, 2006
Election Day, of course, is November 7th.

This will be the last chance for the Right to flex its atrophying muscles, and they won't be able to do it (unless the fix is in).

Let's try to get a little relief for the last two years of our Great National Humiliation. Getting solid majorities in the House and the Senate, even with its DLC-style "centrist" Democrats, will go a long way to restoring some sanity to our world.

The Great Party Democratic Purge can begin when the new Congress is sworn in. Are the re-education camps ready?

Actually, I DO think that this will be another fixed election, but not entirely. With a little luck, this will be the one where one or more of the hackers can be persuaded to spill the beans. Two years of high-profile hearings, indictments, and convictions, leading to the final discrediting of Bush, would be a welcome diversion. Even if the impeachment comes down on the last day of his miserable reign.

4. My hunch is they did this because they knew Bush couldn't run again.
They figured the next president would appoint a non-fundie head of the FDA, and Plan B would be made available over the counter. This, of course, is intolerable to them because the fundies think Plan B will make their wholesome chaste daughters into tramps who'll have sex with any boy who comes along. So as a last ditch effort, they promise to reconsider it, but only if it's available to women 18-and-older, locked behind the pharmacist's counter, so their 16 year old daughter won't be able to buy it in the store.

What's wrong with these people?
