24. SO how many agreements has Isreal kept of this kind?
They are in violation of 60 or so UN resolutions, and I cannot recall one of these deals they have actually kept without cheating of some kind or other. Just look at the 'settlers' for example.

26. If we make Lebanon agree to be occupied Israel will keep their part

I think that is still the sticking point in the diplomacy, getting the Pro-American leaders in Lebanon to agree to the occupation and to kill any of their citizens that fight back.

I think Israel finally made a concession and said that they would agree to let UN troops help kill them.

6. Smart move. Why sacrifice more casualties for land to be given back?
The tragedy is they could have made this deal on the first day and saved 1,000 Lebanese and 100 Israelis.

8. I'm sure if Israel felt they were winning the way they wouldn't pull
back now, and there are probably a lot of reasons why they could have done this.

But it's a good thing, and I'll take it.

11. The closest I get to that statement is the ribbon banner on
Haaretz that currently says "Bolton cautiously optimistic..." Nothing else on that paper gives any indication there is movement.

...even as their lead news story has the cabinet giving approval to escalating the ground offensive.

12. U.S. calls for an end to escalations of Mideast fighting
CRAWFORD, Texas – The White House said Wednesday neither Israel nor Hezbollah should escalate their month-old war, a pointed comment after Israel decided to widen its ground invasion of southern Lebanon.

Although White House press secretary Tony Snow said the message was for both sides, his remarks came as Israel's Security Cabinet voted to expand the war effort in an attempt to deal further blows to Hezbollah. The criticism was among the administration's strongest concerning longtime ally Israel since the fighting began.

Maybe this had something to do with it ...

13. Israel suspends Lebanon offensive for talks: paper
Another source.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert put plans for an expanded Lebanon offensive on hold on Thursday to give a chance for U.S.-led efforts to form a peacekeeper force that could curb Hizbollah, a newspaper said.

Israel's Maariv daily said the suspension decision was made after midnight, hours after Olmert's security cabinet decided to deepen an already four-week-old assault on Hizbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
