Moscow presses U.N. for 72-hour humanitarian truce
Russia's ambassador to the United Nations said on Thursday he planned to quickly introduce a draft U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a 72-hour humanitarian truce in the fighting between Israel and Lebanon's Hizbollah.

Vitaly Churkin said he would press for a quick truce because there was as yet no deal in the 15-nation council on the final wording of a U.S.-French draft calling for an end to the fighting and also setting out broad principles for a political solution to the conflict.

"Unfortunately we at this point came to the conclusion that we do not have an immediate prospect of this (U.S.-French) resolution being accepted," Churkin told reporters.

1. 10 points for the Russians. It is way past time to push this.
PS: Bet the US does not get a "get tough on Iran" resolution at the UN any time in this decade.

4. Looks like there may be several resolutions proposed, the next few days,
and Bush and Blair will have to order vetoes of them all.

6. Russia calls for 72-hour truce
Russia is calling for a 72-hour humanitarian truce between Israel and Hezbollah while negotiations continue between the United States and France on a draft resolution to end the fighting.

Vitaly Churkin, Russia's UN ambassador, said the crisis in Lebanon was too urgent to wait for the wording of a draft resolution on the withdrawal of Israeli troops and a permanent ceasefire to be agreed.

He said: "This diplomatic activity is not being conducted in a quiet academic environment.

"War is raging in Lebanon and the humanitarian situation is getting catastrophic."

11. I just want to respond b/c often when a poster "says the truth"
often all they get is "the sound of crickets" (silence).

You've spoken truth. We all know it.....it's just difficult to 'respond' (b/c we want to respond in words and, perhaps 'action' is what's needed now?)

Peace,

12. I know
Getting rid of bush not going to happen overnight.

I know what the Lamont victory means.

But sadly Lebanon can not wait.

And so we fact with crisis.

There is little Americans can do about all this.
You can call your congressman and senators but I think you would not be successful. Reality is the Isreal camp is strong.
The AIPAC is the one that can make a different. I think they got brains and now is the time they really need to step in with cool head.

But will I reach them. Who knows.

Muslim world been waiting. Afghanistan all keep quiet. Iraq all keep quiet. But GOD why do Isreal go blow up Lebanon. This one damn bad move. We have the long build up hate for Isreal that exist in the middle east. And this like pouring petrol into the whole mix.

What has been done is done. Now we need to look for road out.
Even the Israelis people can see FUBAR ahead. Even some of them blaming US.

Now all stuck because of little mad boy chimp.

So sadly the fate of this world might rest in his hand.
And he is too dumb to see ahead further then is nose.

I can only see one way this can be solve. The Israelis wake the fuck up tell their congresscritter and senators hog to rein in the monkey.

That or pray that the dogs of war is not unleash and that Israel can survive this Holocaust.

For unwitting their arguement of Israel having the right to defend their existantance might result in the destruction of Israel.

13. And Bolton rejects it out of hand
The proposed Russian resolution is ``unhelpful'' because it diverts attention from the U.S.-French measure, which may be voted on as early as today, U.S. envoy John Bolton said. ``We have a realistic prospect of success,'' he said.
