The Pentagons Death And Deception
11/29/03: (ICH) In Iraq War I, the death rate of the combat wounded was 24%. That is, 24% of soldiers wounded in combat later died of their wounds. In Iraq War II the reported death rate is 0.37%. Are flak vests and medical facilities really that much better now or is the Pentagon lying through its teeth as it has so often before?

1. This is very interesting and may be true but I tend to think no. are wrong
Each war has made the good hospital nearer to the man hit. I think it was a week in Korea that had the man back in a good NY hospital after he was hit.My husband was at a hospital when they came in.It was a day or two in Nam and they went right into good care on the battle field as they had got this down in Korea. Now they can be in a good hospital in a few houres after passing out of the field hospital. So every year I would think the death rate would go down but not as good as DOD states. Also another thing that must come into this is the new weapons used on the men hit.I would say numbers are better but not this good.

2. Sadly,
a lot of medical advances take place because of wars. Plastic surgery as we know it got its start in WWI, to help some of the more hideously wounded soldiers.

3. The reality is
that we do not know how many of the wounded actually die. It is hard for me to believe that none of the wounded die. I bet these service personnel are not included in the count. I hope that I am wrong.
