Fox News Ratings Take a Nosedive
The Huffington Post 8/29

Somewhere, Keith Obermann is sticking pins in a Bill O'Reilly voodoo doll: Fox News' ratings are down
since August of last year. Like, way down. Like down 28 percent in primetime among all viewers, down
20 percent in primetime in the "money demo" (viewers aged 25-54) and down 7 percent in daytime
viewership overall. In fact, the only place Fox is up is during the day, when they managed a ratings
increase of just 2 percent, and even then only in the money demo.

And lest you think this is an industry-wide trend, consider this: over the same time period, CNN and
MSNBC are up. CNN's up 35 percent during the day -- 46 percent in the money demo -- and up 21
percent in primetime overall, 25 percent in the money demo. MSNBC's ratings increases aren't quite as
impressive -- up 6 percent in primetime overall, 8 percent in the money demo, and up 36 percent in the
money demo during the day, 26 percent overall.

61. Agree
Our circumstances today remind me of what we were accusing the USSR communist of being like in the 50s and 60s. Many folks seemed to believe what fox puts out. I guess after years people have figured out what fox is and it gets old and boring and they would like some accuracy. They should have gotten over it long ago. This is a new world. If fox is left in a cloud of dust - good riddance.

Edited on Wed Aug-30-06 12:12 AM by RamboLiberal
So unless the a**hat does something even more asinine than normal, I think CNN is keeping him.

On edit: He's their 2nd highest rated program, Nancy Grace who was riding the Ramsey case in Aug is 1st for HLN.

Seriously, Headline News was one of the last beacons of cable news I tolerated since my expectations was I would get the news all within the hour, no fluff.

Beck is an asshole and the fact he cause braille a nuisance shows that he's another nut job appealling to the nut jobs that listen to Limbaugh and read Coulter.

44. I think it's great that Comedy Central repeats those shows at 8pm
I'm not a night owl so it's difficult for me to stay up late and watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report. However, at 8pm there isn't a whole lot of prime picking out there on TV except perhaps Keith Olberman (and although I like the guy - still haven't caught on to the show). So usually at 8pm I'll tune into to Comedy Central and watch those 2 shows with a flip back to MSNBC during commericial breaks.

And I would suspect that other folks, like myself, who can't stay up til 11pm to catch Comedy Central programming are also tuning in at 8pm the next day

I work nights, so I tape them at 10pm (central time) and watch them when I get home, at about 3am or so. If I forget to tape them I can watch them again at 1pm the next day, but I can't fast-forward through the commercials :-)

Low ratings or high ratings, no difference.

Fox News is in partnership with Rove and the White House, and both would welcome a media event like another 9-11 for different reasons. I don't trust events to happen by circumstance or randomly.

'nuff said.

52. The Neo-con juggernaut does not care about making money
These people have enough disposible wealth that they can toss it all over the place in order to get their propaganda across.

Consider the Washingting Times and the Pittsburgh Tribune - two papers in a market already dominated by one main paper (The Post and the Post-Gazette respectively). The Times & Tribune barely have enough readership to keep their papers afloat. But when you have neo-con nut jobs like Moon (the Times) and Melon-Scaife (the Tribune), you can float these papers for decades and barely put a dent into your own income.

You have someone like Rupert Murdoch making a killing with the schlock he shows over on the regular Fox TV Channels that he can take a tank on the News channel and not be affected.

90. Fox 9 in Minneapolis is the same way
Even with their new newscast times (5 & 10, used to be only the hour at 9), there is NO actual content in the entire broadcast. It is all fluff, plugging shows (usually American Idol year-round), creating fear about day-to-day things. In a nutshell it does not go beyond a what a busy surbanite wants. There is no actual news or policy discussed. It is tabloid journalism of the highest order.

KMSP is one of the local stations NewsCorp owns.

it's O-L-B-E-R-M-A-N-N

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Olbermann

Keith Olbermann is one of the most important news men we have on the TV, if not the most important, because Jon doesn't talk much about the news for good reason, he's on a comedy channel, yet the RW nuts throw a fit because he lampoons Bush & his gang to start his show almost every night. Keith, is on MSNBC and talks for over a half an hour about US & World news every night. I love COUNTDOWN!

64. OLBERMANN IS AWESOME!
superbly presents stories, almost as good as anyone out there, and has a "I like him" factor which makes you want to listen because the content is fresh and not heard often on MSM news.

and are turing off the lies and trying to find some sense of all of the things that are happening. To do that, you have to have some inkling of what the hell is happening.

I loved Conan O'Brien's comment at the Emmy awards when he introduced Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, he said something like, "...these two have done as much for Fake News as Fox "news" has done for Fake News..."

83. Remember August 2005? Remember KATRINA?
Maroons!

Fox News hasn't declined 20% since the past year, it's declined this August versus last August's results!!!! There's a huge difference. One month's results does NOT make for a trend.

Remember what the big story/audience grabber was last August? Katrina.

Remember what the big story/audience grabber has been this month? Jon Benet and Karr.

Fox hasn't put nearly as much emphasis on the latter as the other two networks. Didja see that photo of Rita Cosby with her nose to the glass of the vehicle whisking Karr away? Who does she work for, again?

And please notice the absolute size of Fox's audience vs CNN and MSNBC.

What an innumerate bunch of a**-clowns. And wishful thinkers, to boot.

87. Katrina was at the very end of August - so that is no factor
Katrina would've had more effect on September ratings. In case you haven't noticed August '06 hasn't ended yet so the Katrina probably wasn't factored in to Aug '05 numbers. Faux has been in a decline nearly every month for several months.

88. Aug. #'s: O'Reilly No Longer #1 In The Demo; Hannity & Colmes Tops The Fac
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/

For the first time in recent memory, Hannity & Colmes has bested The O'Reilly Factor in the 25-54 demographic for an entire month. In August, FNC's 9pm show averaged 508,000 demo viewers, 14,000 more than Bill O'Reilly's 494,000 at 8pm. (Greta Van Susteren followed close behind with 492,000 in the demo.)

Among total viewers (some would say "older," but we're not going there), O'Reilly still came in first place, with 2,073,000 viewers, compared to 1,696,000 for H&C and 1,499,000 for Greta.

But I hear O'Reilly was none too happy about losing to Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes in the demo. And just look at the recent scoreboards: the trend is holding...

KO was up +55% in Total Viewers and +61% in Key Demo, while O' Reilly dropped -15% Total and -5% Key Demo. H&C was also losing viewers.

91. Some People Have Realized Just How
fake Faux News really is, myself included. I used to watch. Then I saw that they were nothing but a rightwing PR machine, churning out the same lies you can find in rags like the Weakly Standard and National Review.

Blech!

94. Good News
Although this is good news, unfortunately they are still pretty far out in front. Also, it is only the month of August vs. August 2005. I am curious to see September numbers when everyone has returned from vacation and is tuning in for primary election and 9/11 stories. Then I want to see the numbers for the entire year vs. 2005!
