4. There is no recovery, just smoke, mirrors and misreported numbers.
I lost my job in August and there have been more layoffs since; there is nothing out there besides temp stuff at pathetic wages and no bennies.
Every week the numbers for UNemployment are announced; they are always revised upwards with little fanfare the following week, and they do not take into account 1) the number of people who are no longer eligible for unemployment and are now screwed; and 2) the UNDERemployed, of whom there are legion.

I had people coming into training at the job I used to have, who had master's degrees in egineering, education, etc. and were taking $8/hour shit jobs because they had to; meanwhile, there are 4 'senior staff' members at this company who have less education and experience than these folks, who are collecting fat checks and stock options and whatnot and all, since the shareholders are thrilled that costs have been cut so much by shipping jobs overseas, and of course the uppercrusts are not getting THEIR jobs moved anywhere, thank you...

Sorry, didn't mean to go on a rant, but I really want to go back to work!!

8. I think your tale sums it all up in a nutshell
There is an economic recovery going on — if you're already RICH!

They are consolidating and further entrenching their power and wealth. Why have Bush and Cheney been so successful with their $2,000 a plate luncheons? Because the people who are attending them know they will be getting BIG dividends. This economy has absolutely nothing to do with the poor or middle class.

When they're done, you'll either be a member of the wealthy elite or a corporate slave.

12. If I remember correctly in W's first 6 months his top 10 contributors...
saw a 386% "Return on investment) (their contributions) as the result of executive orders and the first tax cut. I read that somewhere (from Bussflash I think).

2. The economy still blows in Michigan
And I keep hearing about layoffs. If he hadn't pushed for big tax cuts for the rich, then maybe we would be seeing some kind of a recovery.

10. You got that right
And Granholm's getting every smidgen of the blame, even though Engler's legacy to her was a massive, steaming pile of dog shit. Repubs tend to do that, don't they? They leave it behind for the Dems to clean up.

I keep hearing about an "economic recovery," and I'd love to know which states are experiencing it. If anyone living in such a state would post it here, please do so. My Texas relatives say the economy still sucks down there, my Georgia pals say it sucks over there, my New York pals say it sucks up there, my Tennessee pals are struggling, my Nebraska pals say it's bad over there, my Illinois pals say it's so-so. Where's the state with the frou-frou and confetti?

14. New York
I know this is anecdotal, but NYC is in bad shape if what I'm seeing is any indication.

I have never in all my time living here seen so many empty storefronts and retail space. Every single block has an empty store that has been empty for months if not years and stores and restaurants that have been in business for decades are closing.

3. The article has one glaring error :)
Michigan is NOT a battle ground for Bush. There is NO way possible my fellow Michiganians are going to switch and vote Republican in 2004! With our unemployment at over 7% still (The number is MUCH, MUCH higher due to the fact that when you collect that last extension check you are magically employed again according to unemployment figures) Michigan is not friendly territory for Bush :)

7. michigan
I hope they dont, we need PA MI, MO, and OH as the big 4
for our side, we can do it next year

And 1month of a good GNP does not make for an economic recovery
there are still over 2million jobs lost
There he goes again, trying to snow the American people with this
so called economic recovery, that is not even here yet.

he will appear to be out of touch. I've heard of this happening before.

15. He should, he created it from nothing
The numbers he's releasing are just as phony as those his father released, and as phony as the count in Florida. So he should take credit, the way any fiction writer takes credit for their novel.

then it only makes sense that he would take credit for the usual rise of the economy at Christmas time. It the christmas season, even when things are bad, like now, the economy shows an uptick at christmas time. sheesh.

19. Anybody see the Challenger, Gray and Christmas report this a.m.?
On CNBC, don't have a link. It was surprisingly gloomy. The head of CG&C, which is quite reputable, said he doesn't see any real growth in jobs until 2008! He said what we have been saying all along; all the "new" jobs are low-paying and actually few in number. The reason the unemployment rolls have been dropping is that the long-term unemployed are falling off of them and because companies have cut so much already, there's very little fat left to trim. But the unemployed are not getting rehired, and all the growth is overseas: that's where the productivity has come from. He also warned that more white-collar jobs are headed offshore.

He didn't say why he picked 2008 as a target date for job recovery. Maybe it's because we'll be rid of Chimp for sure then.

I'm actually surprised they let this guy on TV.

24. Another premature victory dance
he really should learn to wait until he crosses into the endzone to do those things. "Economy: Mission Accomplished!"? I don't think so, yet.
