Sen. Lieberman expects cool response
Sen. Lieberman expects cool response
By ANDREW MIGA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Sen. Joe Lieberman, whose independent re-election bid has rankled Democrats, says he expects a cold shoulder or two from Senate colleagues when he returns to Washington next week.

Obviously, some of my colleagues may be coming up more directly to embrace me, some may be looking to avoid eye contact," the Connecticut senator said in a telephone interview Thursday with The Associated Press. "I'm just going to do my job and that will be that."

The three-term lawmaker is defying his party after his primary loss to Ned Lamont. Democratic leaders, including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and other prominent senators, have abandoned Lieberman and rallied behind Lamont.

Lieberman said he is determined to stay his independent course — and is careful to separate personal relations from politics.

1. When asked how he felt...
...about the fact that his independent bid could hurt downticket Democrats, Lieberman responded, "Maybe they should have thought about that during the primary." So now Lieberman resorts to blackmail and terrorism when he doesn't get his way...how typically Joe.

3. Man the stupidity never ends with these corporate media shills!
The leaders of the Democratic Party "have abandoned Lieberman and rallied behind Lamont"? WTF? They didn't "abandon" Lieberman, he lost the primary and they are supporting the Democratic candidate! When a candidate loses a primary, he isn't "abandoned" by his Party, he simply wasn't chosen by his Party. The only "abandoning" going on here, is Lieberman's abandoning of his former Party...

10. That reflects the elitist attitude of the corporate media
We should remind the elitists that the people do not exist to vote for the politicians; the politicians are there to serve and represent the people.

Joe Lieberman failed to do that. He paid the price.

The people may have been wrong in their judgment, as Lieberman and his supporters claim. Nevertheless, the people are the authority on who governs them, not the governors themselves.

7. If I were a senator, I wouldn't avoid eye contact, or give him the cold
shoulder or go running in the opposite direction for that matter.

Why would I?

I'd be proud and confident about my opposition to Lieberman....and if he came up to me and asked me why I turned on him, I'd say it's simple.

Your views on the war are outrageous and you are defying the will of the voters in Connecticut.

You're no longer a democrat. You're an independent, and I support democrats. Period. The end Joe.

11. It's one thing to turn against the 'looney left',
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 12:48 AM by msgadget
since that's part of the beltway strategy, but ignoring his party and its voters altogether deserved a quick and brutal slapdown. It's time the media started reporting on Joe as a person who abandoned his party and on Lamont as a victor, not a fluke. WAY too much has been made of his 'independent' (primaries don't apply to Joe) run and not enough about the democratically chosen democratic candidate. Freindship be damned, the media could actually get Joe elected by republicans. Even Emanuel knows that.

Sincerely yours,
Looney Lefty
