Bloc MP poised to join Grits - Globe and Mail
More trouble for the Bloc. What a crying shame.

Bloc Quebecois MP Robert Lanctot appeared to be poised Tuesday to abandon his party and join the federal Liberal caucus.

Paul Martin, the incoming prime minister, confirmed he had spoken to Mr. Lanctot and had been assured by the MP that he sees Quebec's future as lying within Canada.

If he believes that, what the hell was he doing in the Bloc?

1. I've always liked the Bloc...
I think I would probably support the Bloc were I Quebecois...

2. Fair enough. I'm afraid we must agree to differ on that point.

3. I'm glad that guy came to his senses--finally.
I was relieved in '95 when--even though the margin was sooooo narrow--Quebec voters voted to stay in Canada. What would Canada be without Quebec--and the reverse even more pressing a question? We'd have seen the "devolution" of Canada as we know it...and that really WOULD have been a disaster, both for Canada AND for the U.S.!:scared:

Jean Chretien may be grumpy, but he was both brave, and right, to campaign as fervently as he did that year for his home province not to declare independence from the rest of Canada. And for pulling it off.:-)

More of those B.Q. fanatics ought to realize that they can't survive without the rest of Canada--and vice-versa would be pretty tough, too.

B-)

4. The problem with the Quebec Referendum, like i said elsewhere
is that a yes vote wouldn't instantly lead to independence. The question was 'Do you wish to renegotiate Quebec's relationship with Canada'. That really could mean anything.
