Diebold retreats; lawmaker demands inquiry (Kucinich is on this!)
Diebold is facing threats on two fronts as free-speech advocates pursue monetary damages against it and a presidential candidate urges a congressional inquiry into the company.

snip
Diebold indicated in a Nov. 24 filing with the U.S. District Court in San Jose, Calif., that it would retract the DMCA notices and would not sue those who posted the e-mail correspondence or their ISPs. On Monday, the company restated that promise in the courtroom.

snip
Seltzer, who represented the Swarthmore students, said the plaintiffs would seek monetary damages to dissuade companies from using DMCA takedown notices lightly.

snip
Diebold's retreat in the courtroom comes as U.S. congressional representative Dennis Kucinich, who is seeking the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, jumped onto the anti-Diebold bandwagon by providing links to the Diebold e-mail correspondence from his House of Representatives Web site.

snip
Kucinich also asked the U.S. House Judiciary Committee to investigate Diebold's DMCA takedown notices.

8. In a perfect world.
I will support him, if he can get a few more percentage points. Maybe I should contribute a few dollars at this point. I think I will.

15. Contribute as much as you can. Win or lose, it's critical to get his
name and message out there. There are lots of good Dem candidates, but his ideals are something to work towards.

23. "In a perfect world" is right
I love DK and everything he stands for. I wish with all my heart that he were president. But I know that I am in a minority-I'm the only one in my family, almost the only one at the large hospital where I work, and one of a small group of people in my city, who see the world the way that I do.

It is ESSENTIAL at this time in history that we nominate someone who will reach a broader group of people. Dennis isn't going to go away and there are other roles he can play that will influence the future. I think he would be a great Sec of State.

12. WHY DON'T WE ALL VOTE KUCINICH ?
If we all recognize he is the only candidate with real courage, and the only one who really stands up for real issues against the corporatists, what does it matter in the primaries?

We all recognize we'd vote for a wet paper bag made to speak by a leprotic hand (the Puppet of Monte Cristo) before we'd vote for Bushit in Nov.

Let's vote our consciences in the primaries, since the eventual Dem nominee will be someone flawed like Dean or (shudder at all my second choices). And we'll still vote for it.

I'm not starting any fights, but DK is the man, and he's for real.

Unless it turns out he's Skull and Bones, he's my guy.

Edited on Wed Dec-03-03 12:13 AM by twilight
I've been a supporter of DK for a long time now. He is the only real candidate out there that takes action and follows through with his words! The best candidate!

Check out his online store for a great way to makes campaign contributions:

Right now he's out to have the Patriot Act repealed!

December 2, 2003

Kucinich Joins Board of National Coalition to Repeal the Patriot Act

"It is with great pride and also with great dedication that I have accepted a position on the Board of the National Coalition to Repeal the 'PATRIOT Act.' It will be an honor to work with the many talented individuals and organizations making up this grassroots effort, whose mission -- to protect our civil liberties from the PATRIOT Act, the Homeland Security Act, and other executive orders -- is in better touch with the American people than is the Congress of the United States. I am committed to working through NCRPA to defeat the efforts of the Bush administration to strip us of the rights we hold under the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments."
- Cong. Dennis J. Kucinich

This man IS the real deal and he actually WORKS for the people!

DENNIS J. KUCINICH FOR PRESIDENT IN 2004!!! Our only real choice! :D

19. Dennis is the only candidate for Prez ...
who voted AGAINST the Patriot Act.

Did you know that he is also a co-sponsor of Rush Holt's HB 2234? I wish he'd hit this stuff hard now that's he's on the campaign trail and he's got a megaphone, so to speak. As much as any Democrat can actually HAVE a megaphone in this current media climate, that is.

Dennis can be chasing Diebold on the sidelines while the other candidates dismantle Bush on other issues.

All for America. All against Bush.

I'd like to know what the other candidates have to say about this issue also, with the exception of Kucinich and Dean their silence has been deafening.
