Kenyan police blame U.S. warning for bomb hoaxes

NAIROBI, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Kenyan police blamed a U.S. warning of a terrorist threat to Western interests in Nairobi for a series of hoax bomb threats that shut streets and offices in the capital on Thursday.

Police said they had evacuated a number of buildings and searched hotels and office blocks housing Western companies since the United States warned of a security risk in central Nairobi on Tuesday, but had found no bombs.

"It was very irresponsible the way that information was brought out," police spokesman Kingori Mwangi said.

"We had that information as early as last week. Now the clowns are going to have every chance to make all kinds of hoaxes. People who are not well in the head, or who just don't want to work in their office can now just make a telephone call.
