Vatican Excommunicates Zambian Archbishop

The singular clerical career of Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo — faith healer and exorcist, who returned to the church after marrying an acupuncturist in 2001 in a group wedding presided over by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon — appears to be over. The Vatican announced today that it had excommunicated Archbishop Milingo, 76, for an offense that the Catholic church, short of priests and under some pressure to loosen celibacy rules, takes seriously: Two days earlier, he installed four married men as bishops in Washington, in a breakaway Catholic sect.

Noting that the church has watched over Archbishop Milingo’s case with “vigilant patience,” a somewhat pained Vatican statement said that he had conducted himself with “irregularity and a progressively open rupture with the communion of the Church.”

The statement also said that church had waited with hope for his “reconsideration and his return to the full communion with the pope.

“Unfortunately these latest developments have cast away any such hopes,” it said.

Milingo added that he was "very surprised at how the Catholic church has spread so much evil against the Rev. Moon," and that he would like to be an "intermediary" between the two religious bodies.

Milingo claimed that Moon's vision for global peace and the family are consistent with recent papal teaching. He said he has been fishing three times with Moon, and was "very, very surprised" at Moon's "simplicity" and his spirit of "living for others."

"I've seen what he has done," Milingo said.

so now he is the True Messiah? Is that consistent with papal teaching, too?

who were moonies. I don't know if that is a politically correct term, but that is how I have heard them refered to. He was an ok man, but his wife was wonderful and very lonely for her own children. She had little contact with because they were essentially taken over by another aspect of this cult. She was used to do missionary work and spread the Moonie way of life. It was deeply sad.

This is unbelievable stuff, and it makes one wonder how far and deep this all goes. I don't think there has been nearly enough investigation done into how this organization has affected our government.
