Hastert won't resign over Foley scandal

Hastert won't resign over Foley scandal
Washington Times opines House Speaker ‘must do the only right thing’

Despite a call from a conservative newspaper for his resignation over his handling of a congressional sex scandal, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., intends to retain his leadership position.

"House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once," The Washington Times said, in an editorial in which it joined conservative leaders in calling for leadership resignations over the handling of the matter involving ex-Rep Mark Foley, R-Fla.

A written statement from Hastert's office said that wasn't going to happen. "The Speaker has and will lead the Republican conference to another majority in the 110th Congress," the statement said, adding, "Mark Foley has resigned his seat in dishonor, and the criminal investigation of this matter will continue. The Speaker is working every day on ensuring the House is a safe, productive environment for members, staff and all those who are employed by the institution."

17. That's the bottom line.
The American People should see them for what they are.

Immoral, power-hungry, profiteering thieves and liars who will do anything to hold onto the goose that lays golden eggs (control of the US govt.). The super-rich are looting our Treasury and we will have to pry it out of their cold dead fingers.

How many of the 39% will wake up after this disgraceful episode? I wonder. It still amazes me how many working people support the people who are robbing them blind.

20. Hastert won't resign over Foley scandal
WASHINGTON - Speaker Dennis Hastert brushed aside any suggestion of resignation on Tuesday as House Republican leaders struggled to contain the fallout from an election-year scandal involving sexually explicit messages from a disgraced lawmaker to underage male pages.

Hastert issued a written statement as Majority Leader John Boehner said the speaker had assured him months ago the matter had been taken care of. "It's in his corner. It's his responsibility," Boehner, R-Ohio, said in an interview on radio station WLW in Cincinnati.

The lawmaker, former GOP Rep. Mark Foley of Florida, resigned abruptly on Friday and has since checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation program at an undisclosed location.

Now doesn't that just warm the cockles of your heart to see those Republican House leaders getting along so well and being accountable for their actions?

25. With Luck, This Could Be A Two-fer
Take out Hastert and Boehner at once.

I am reminded more and more of the punchline to a long joke, to the effect that the last unindicted GOP member, a mayor of some podunk Midwest town, was made Speaker of the House, so that Bush and Cheney had someone to take over when they split.

He may not be qualified though, if "unindicted" is one of the criteria. Who knows what might still crop up on him?

26. Trent Lott did not want to go either.
Yet he went anyway. One can only hope they keep up the pressure and Denny has to resign. If they don't make him resign, it'll just be to easy to label the party as enablers for sexual predators.

Keep fightin' Denny! you slimy rat fuck .
