Bloody Baghdad Day Leaves 263 Dead
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 04:54 PM by ECH1969
In the last day, the body count in Iraq exploded as at least 263 were killed or found dead; 30 of those were insurgents killed in Ramadi. Tensions are particularly high due to two mass kidnappings that occurred in Baghdad.

At least 16 of a total of 40 kidnap victims are still missing. Roadside bombs, mortars and simple shootings took many lives, while stray fire or mortars took the lives of several children. 45 other people were reportedly injured in those or similar attacks.

Experts have noted that in previous years violence has increased during Ramadan; this year is no exception.

8. What's Der Monkey going to say if asked again about the number of
Iraqis killed in this, his vanity war? 100,000? 200,000?

Last year's statement:

"I would say 30,000, more or less, have died as a result of the initial incursion and the ongoing violence against Iraqis," Bush said. "We've lost about 2,140 of our own troops in Iraq."

Woodward writes in State of Denial that after Garner was replaced by Bremer, the Cheerleader slapped him on the back and asked him if he wanted to "do Iran". That's how "hard" the Boy King "grieves about the loss of life".

12. It's amazing how the IdiotsInCharge
always talk about the downplayed number of Troops that died in this War,
but they make no mention of the thousands upon thousands of other people that have died.

I guess it just makes no difference to them.:(

No question - those are some big figures, even for Iraq.

17. Scaled up to the size of the US: 3156 dead
The US is approximately 12 times as populous as Iraq, so 12 x 263 = 3156 dead.

21. Because no-one openly denies the authority of the government
Look at the Kansas-Missouri "pre-Civil-War" we had in the 1850's: it was horribly violent, but not a civil war because both sides formally acknowledged the US Government. It will be a civil war when a Sunni or Shi'ite Arab plants a crescent flag or hand of fatimah and declares a new state. Nobody has done that yet.

24. Not to dispute you, but why does our definition of a civil war
have to apply to Iraq? Actions seem to be speaking louder than anything there at this point.

25. It all depends on what you mean by civil war
The problem with Iraq is there are at least 25 different militia groups in Baghdad according to the US military and they are all killing each other. It is what one might call a gang war on steroids.

Shia militias like the Madhi Army and spinter groups from the Madhi Army are fighting with other Shia groups like the Badr. Sunni tribal leaders are fighting Sunni Baathists and al-Qaeda members.

The word civil war in my view doesn't catagorize what is going on in Iraq. The word free for all would be closer.

37. this is beyond disgusting . . . it's downright sickening . . .
263 individual, unique human beings . . . their lives snuffed out because BushCo illegally invaded and occupied their country . . .

and because of the corporate/government cabal that runs things, those responsible are not being hauled before an international tribunal to answer for their crimes . . .

just plain sickening . . . I mourn all 263, and offer my sincere condolences to their families and friends . . .

38. That really is the point, isn't it?
263 humans have actually gone so far as to die, but many more have been wounded and traumatized by this one short day of ugliness. Even that doesn't fairly portray the horror: think of all the family members deprived of their breadwinners and yanked from their tenuous place in society to destitution. Think of the heartbroken people who've had family members and loved ones ripped from their mortal embrace in the blink of an eye. Think of the disfigured and crippled who now struggle to get to their new normal state of existence.

It's ALL our fault. This was an elective war of conquest, brought forth by people who didn't care about the people in question and by one who didn't even know there were two kinds of Muslims.

The excuse of 9-11 was used to tidy up all old business--as Rumsfeld said--while not dealing with the real issue of getting those who are a true threat. The sheer hubris and bigoted simplemindedness of the greedheads who started this ugliness is amazing.

This is the gift that goes on giving; long after I'm dead, people will remember how their fathers or mothers were taken from them and their relatively stable lives were torn from under them leaving them in economic and social ruin. The voices and faces of the disfigured and hobbled will be there for years as murmuring testimony of the high-handed ugliness of the infidels from the land of money.

Everyone matters. Conservatives don't understand this because the heart of conservatism is selfishness. To them, a few wogs more or less means zilch. This is the fashionable mode of class warfare that ushered in the sanctification of the dark side of the American character in the 1980 election; before that, it was not "cool" to openly abuse others and only focus on oneself. Now, it's a virtue.
