Adulterous GOP'r Asks for Forgiveness,Denies Allegation of Abuse in New Ad
October 03, 2006 7:27 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: Rep. Don Sherwood, the Pennsylvania Republican accused of choking his former mistress, has issued a television ad in which he asks for forgiveness for the "mistake" he made which "nearly cost him" the love his wife and daughters.

While saying that the "allegation of abuse was never true," Sherwood tells the voters of Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district that if they were to forgive him, he will stay focused on reducing taxes, creating jobs, and bringing home the district’s fair share.

In a sign of how invective the debate surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) has become, the campaign manager for Chris Carney, Sherwood's Democratic opponent, has issued a paper statement criticizing Sherwood for holding a Boehner fundraiser earlier today and a Hastert fundraiser later this month: "Holding happy hour fundraisers with people who cover-up the cyber-molestation of children should be below even the questionable morals of Don Sherwood," reads the Democratic statement.

GOP scandals key issue in Pennsylvania, too
By Dianna Cahn

Times Herald-Record

Milford, Pa. — Until last week, veteran Pennsylvania Rep. Don Sherwood was facing down a sex scandal with unflagging certitude that he could keep his 10th Congressional District seat in November.

Democratic challenger Chris Carney was giving the four-term Republican a real run for his money in a district that two years ago was considered one of the safest seats in Congress.

The race in this quiet corner of northeastern Pennsylvania was already being watched as one that could help Democrats topple Republican control of the House in November.

Sherwood was fighting to fix his image after he admitted last year to a five-year extramarital affair with a woman 35 years his junior. The news emerged after he settled a lawsuit claiming he tried to choke her. But Sherwood insisted that his base was behind him.

Can't quite put my finger on it.

Anyway, the meltdown continues for the Party of Personal Responsibility and Family Values (tm) -- and they SO deserve it!

15. I think a lot more than fingers....
....are involved here. Aside from the bandaid on her malnourished "Ann Coulteresque" arms and what looks like a pretty good wig, her face looks as though she's ready to flinch from a punch or something. And her eyes look like he may have been doing more than just choking her. If one is into abuse-enabling or S/M, then Rethuglican is the way you wanna go....

9. the party is full of scumbag hypocrites , i would be ashamed if a Dem
was like them. it's not about the affairs or even lying. it's about how they are able to preach morals and values and condemn others while doing this shit themselves. and then be able to get out about how they should be forgiven.

22. (edited for truth)
While saying that the "allegation of abuse was never true (as far as you can prove in court)," Sherwood tells the voters of Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district that if they were (foolish enough)to forgive him, he will stay focused on (enriching the top 1% while maintaining huge deficits), creating jobs (for low wage workers overseas), and bringing home (pork for his friends and contributors).

Chris Carney shouldn't have to tar Sherwood with he Foley associations. In a sane Nation, Sherwood wouldn't get a single vote. Alas it will be a close race. Godspeed to the Dems working for Carney in this race.

37. The voters can decide if the extra-marital affair matters
But the assault allegation deserves to be investigated properly.

I thought Republicans wanted to strangle the government in a bathtub, not their mistresses. Maybe he figured he needed some practice.

general scuttlebutt from Sherwood's district (yeah, he's 'my' reprihensible to congress):

-- should have 'apologized' when the "incident" first hit the papers
-- he's sorry for the affair but not for strangling?
-- of couse he's "sorry" now, it's election time and he's trailing in the polls

41. Donny's in Deep Doo-Doo
This slimeball is my Rep in PA-10. If this guy hid the truth in three elections (2000, 2002, 2004) I just wonder if he'd still be having the affair now if Ore hadn't called 911. The only thing he's really sorry for is getting caught.

Chris Carney's campaign has released their second commercial addressing the whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBeL6rsqojM
It's pretty incredible.

Hopefully the voters can send Mr. Sherwood back to running his car dealership just in time for a big Thanksgiving Day Sale!
