Foley scandal has GOP fearing 'more disclosures'

WASHINGTON — The House page scandal engulfing former Rep. Mark Foley and House Republican leaders enters its sixth day with Speaker Dennis Hastert working to hold onto his job and the GOP rank and file worried that the pre-election drip, drip of damaging political news isn't over yet.

The daily disclosures about Foley's salacious Internet exchanges with former teenage congressional pages has GOP lawmakers and conservative activists fearing the foibles of other politicians may be exposed.

"People are very, very concerned," Rep. Ray LaHood, R-Ill., said Tuesday night. "I think there are going to be more disclosures."

"We have heard rumors that other, similar activity has occurred involving additional congressmen and will be released prior to the November elections," said the Arlington Group, a coalition of 70 pro-family conservative groups.

35. What TOTALLY pisses me off about this...
...in addition to the Repukes in Congress protecting Foley while he molested the pages under their noses is that most likely Foley has medical insurance paid for by our tax dollars that is paying for his phony stay in some re-hab. Talk about disgusting! And...Foley probably took the place of someone who really would benefit from being where he is and who is not looking for a free pass on criminal charges for sexually exploiting a minor.

Isn't it bad enough that Foley was doing this asnd doing it with the knowledge of the US Repuke Congressional leadership ~~ but to have him most likely use benefits of his job like medical insurance to try and escape punishment? Sheesh ~~ talking about adding insult to injury! Didn't his dumb ass lawyer even think about the implications that this ploy would bring? I am a lawyer and I have done criminal defense and I have to tell you that IMO Foley's lawyer is one stupid asshole. All he managed to do was make his client look like a sick fuck and a WEAK sick fuck who takes no responsibility while pointing the finger of blame elsewhere.

Sheesh!

Re: Lawrence King and the Franklin Credit Union scandal.

Try reading former republican Nebraska senator John W. DeCamp's book "The Franklin Coverup". I say "try" since I was physically I'll from some of it and had to put it down. Very very disturbing if true. Violent pedophilia at the highest levels of government. Sick stuff. The documentary "Conspiracy of Silence" was massively repressed by the powers that be. It was supposed to air on The Discovery Channel in 1994 but was squashed by (as far as I know) unnamed senators. All copies of the final edit were destroyed. Only a rough edit still exists. You can watch it here;

http://www.franklincase.org/silence.htm

or find it on many P2P file sharing systems.

The book from amazon is here;

http://www.amazon.com/Franklin-Cover-Up-Satanism-Murder...

Also try reading "Why Johnny Can't Come Home" by Noreen N. Gosch... Same stuff different writer.

20. I think the Democrats should more concerned about disclosures
Even if a dozen Republican congressmen are implicated, if just one Democrat is found it will "bipartisanize" the scandal and limit the damage that we can do to the Republicans.

I'm quite certain that Rove's people up on the Hill are looking hard for a Democrat whom they can implicate.

I refuse to "worry" about something that deserves to be found out and punished, if it happened.

Having said that,if "evidence" comes out against a Dem, I hope it is scrutinized thoroughly, because I certainly think the Repukes will try to "make" this a bipartisan scandal, if they have the chance.

on edit: Fixed appalling grammar.

28. I agree. If they're guilty, they should be exposed.
The safety of the young people in the program is more important than covering for the crime. If a Democrat is found guilty of the crime, they should face the music just the same.

I agree though, any evidence suddenly raised about a Democrat should be scrutinized. The Republicans have been caught in the middle of a "perfect storm," so to speak, and they'll likely do anything to begin navigating their way out.

Google selects and displays the ads based upon words relevant to the board/discussion content. It's automated.

The revenue generated by the ads goes to support DU's upkeep, so it's just something we have to deal with. Take the bad with the good and whatnot.

I mean, with all those good Christian values, and all that. Let's look more closely at how the 21 year old was bumped ahead of the line to get the difficult internship he was given and the relationship of "outted" Congressman Dreier and young Blair. Maybe there's an International scandal here. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

So-called Socialist Prime Minister has political affair with right-wing Republican, and together they screw the world!

Euan has also got a very good scholarship at Yale. His academic record is good; but not as good as that of most students who get such scholarships, and I do suspect that the Tony/Bush relationship has been used to favour Euan on a number of issues. To me, that is the scandal here, rather than anything sexual. I doubt very much that Euan has literally been Dreier's "Monica Lewinsky", but even if he had, he's 21 so well over the age of consent (as was she!)

59. They Let Foley Stay Because HE KNEW ABOUT FL 2000
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 06:28 AM by Binka
Just some inside info a friend in FL passed on to me. He said Foley was a known homosexual since taking office in 1994 but it was after the theft of 2000 that he got brazen about the page peccadillo's. There wasn't anything DeLay or Hastert could do about him because they relied heavily on Foley to steal FL.

So Foley just keeps becoming a bigger and bigger problem but only his gay friend and Chief of Staff now to Rep Reynolds (PUKE- NY) Kirk Fordham has the guts to go to Hasterts COS and tell him the shit is getting realty nasty. Fordham was fired yesterday BTW and is now working with the FBI.

Foley has lost all credibility here so what he says means pretty much nothing (about 2000) my friend thinks that is why the GOP finally outed him with the emails. They thought it would bang up Foley's cred and get him to quit but that would be the end of things. But it turns sour for the Gopers because the emails while creepy and icky were not sexually explicit and predatory like the IMs are. Plus the senior GOP creeps thought the pages would keep quiet because they were afraid of being outed themselves, most if not all, according to my source, of the pages seduced by Foley are gay.

But the IMs changed EVERYTHING. And the pages are talking regardless of whether they are outed or not. This is the absolute WORST nightmare for the GOP because now all their CREDIBILITY on EVERYTHING is shot to shit.

Now questions can be asked. The press is gonna go wild here. I think most of the WH press corp loathes this administration and has been quiet out of fear. Helen Thomas is an old lady she is the only one who said fuck it I'll ask whatever. Bush and crew are gonna get grilled. There will be at least one suicide. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
