N.M. Marine slated for Medal of Honor
An Albuquerque man and U.S. Marine who was killed in Iraq has been nominated for the Medal of Honor, the U.S. Military's highest honor for bravery on the battlefield.

Chris Adlesperger was nominated after killing at least 11 enemy soldiers while recovering the body of a friend and fellow soldier, said his stepgrandmother, Lynda Adlesperger, who has known him since he was six years old.

"It makes you proud, but at the same time, it makes you sad," she said today. "You don't want to think of your grandson out there shooting all these people and killing all these people. . . . It's just kind of one of those things."

The last time a U.S. Marine received a Medal of Honor was for the Vietnam War, said Staff Sgt. Christina Delai with U.S. Marine Corps. Headquarters Public Affairs.

2. Heartwarming news but
it is so very sad that three plus years into the war, 2,700 dead and god knows how many wounded and not one of our servicemembers serving in Iraq has been awarded the CMOH. And if this one is approved, and I see know reason why it wouldn't, the recipient will never see it, never be saluted as a Medal of Honor Winner. Instead he has been wasted by a liar who just had to be a war president.

As a Veteran I offer my heartiest and heartfelt congratulations to his family and a thank you to our Marine Chris Adelsperger for his outstanding service.

6. This is the second CMOH awarded in this conflict. . .
The first was Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith, who received his medal in early 2005.

4. Chris has a great step-grandmother!
Sanity is a hard thing to find these days!

Nonetheless, her step-grandson was a good Marine and should be rewarded for his sacrifice.

8. I hope NM plans some special acknowledgement. We are proud...
...that a New Mexican demonstrated the extraordinary courage and gallantry required for such an honor. Our state has always contributed much to America's defense.

But as others have noted, what a tragedy that this courage and gallantry was sacrificed for a cause so ignoble. * has so much to answer for. This fine Marine is one of many on the blood-soaked balance sheet that someday he will have to reconcile.

sadly,
Bright
