Bush Signs Homeland Security Bill ($$ for fence)
(ISN'T TODAY WEDNESDAY??)

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -

President Bush on Thursday signed a homeland security bill that includes an overhaul of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $1.2 billion for fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border to stem illegal immigration.

Standing before a mountainous backdrop in Arizona, a state that has been the center of much debate over secure borders, Bush signed into law a $35 billion homeland security spending bill that could bring hundreds of miles of fencing to the busiest illegal entry point on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Bush said enforcement alone will not stop illegal immigration, and urged Congress to pass his guest worker program to legally bring in new foreign workers and give some of the country's estimated 11 million illegal immigrants a shot at U.S. citizenship.

"The funds that Congress has appropriated are critical for our efforts to secure this border and enforce our laws, yet we must also recognize that enforcement alone is not going to work," Bush said at the bill-signing ceremony tucked into his three-day campaign fundraising trip to the West. "We need comprehensive reform that provides a legal way for people to work here on a temporary basis."

6. If I have a 3,000 mile border, and fence a few hundred miles of it
.
.
.

even a raccoon or squirrel can figure out how to go over, under or around it

hell, why not erect a 20 foot wall on BOTH the USA's borders, with concrete sunk 50 feet down to prevent tunneling,

and of course, moats and drawbridges too!

That MIGHT work

Just never has in all of recorded History -

Guess they didn't explain that in "My Pet Goat"

9. At the same time he was signing that here in AZ he was stumping
for the pug gubernatorial candidate Len Munsil and he called him a "beautiful man" and then screwed up his name calling him "Lee Munsil". I laughed myself sick. No one is going to beat our Janet Napolitano. We love her...

13. So much for the Republican fence...
SNIP: GOP leaders have singled out the fence as one of the primary accomplishments of the recently completed session. Many lawmakers plan to highlight their $1.2 billion down payment on its construction as they campaign in the weeks before the midterm elections.

SNIP:Congress has approved a proposal to build a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border. It would include two layers of fencing, lighting, cameras and sensors.

SNIP:But shortly before recessing late Friday, the House and Senate gave the Bush administration leeway to distribute the money to a combination of projects -- not just the physical barrier along the southern border. The funds may also be spent on roads, technology and "tactical infrastructure" to support the Department of Homeland Security's preferred option of a "virtual fence."SNIP:
