Iraqi musicians to play for Bush
http://www.sundaytimes.news.com.au/printpage/0,5942,8081763,00.html

US President George W Bush and First Lady Laura Bush are to attend a concert by the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra in Washington next week.

The date was announced by the White House today.
"For musicians who have literally had to play in the dark during Saddam Hussein's regime, this concert exemplifies the possibilities that come with the light of freedom," said spokeswoman Claire Buchan.

"The president very much looks forward to attending this historic concert."

<snip>

The way they are manufacturing photo ops for Dim Son, I expect to see him delivering babies in an Iraqi hospital next week.

4. Um... why did the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra...
...have to "play in the dark" during Saddam's regime? I thought it was coalition forces that knocked the lights out for months.

Welcome to DU...

7. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
I get this mental image of a bunch of confederate prisoners playing for an arrogant union guard, so that the camp commander won't listen to the severe beating that the Ugly is getting from the Bad.
Just a mental image....

23. I got a flashback to "Time Bandits", myself
There's a scene when the bandits go to rob Napoleon, and they're meeting him for the first time, he's watching this puppet show in a burned out theatre. Anyway, if you've seen the movie you know what I mean.

20. The Great Pretender would be better....
Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Pretending that I’m doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I’m lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I’ve played the game but to my real shame
You’ve left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal

Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal

Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around

19. Isn't it amazing
that the members of the Iraqi National Symphony survived and also have their limbs so they can perform for the boy king? </sarcasm>

22. Can * sit still long enough for the concert?
He's got the attention span of a mayfly, and only stayed for 20 minutes of The Nutcracker in St. Petersburg.
