More fiction than fact discovered in Bush's Baghdad trip
http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/front/archives/2003/12/06/2003078487

Basically a rehash.... But a good rehash.

THE GUARDIAN AND REUTERS , WASHINGTON
Saturday, Dec 06, 2003,Page 1
US President George W. Bush did go to Baghdad. That much seems to be true, but some of the well-publicized details of last week's surprise Thanksgiving Day trip have since been called into question as the White House spin is deconstructed.

<snip>

He described the step as a reasonable security precaution on a visit intended to boost morale for US troops, who are serving extended deployments in Iraq and threatened by insurgent attacks.

"The American people understand the importance of not compromising security, not only for the president of the United States, but for those on board the plane and those on the ground as well," McClellan said.

But David Wise, author of the 1973 book The Politics of Lying, said, "The question is, should the government engage in lying in order to essentially ... protect a photo op? The answer is, no it shouldn't," he said. "It's a serious business when government lies, and eventually it does hurt a government and a president's credibility."

2. The entire Bush presidency...
is an absolute sham. It's a thin veneer of icing covering a cake of squirming maggots.

11. "The entire Bush presidency..." is just a decorative turkey.
New tone in Washington? That's just a decorative turkey.

A uniter, not a divider? That's just a decorative turkey.

The Bush tax cut? That's just a decorative turkey.

No child left behind? That's just a decorative turkey.

War against terror? That's just a decorative turkey.

Iraq's WMD? That's just a decorative turkey.

Mission accomplished? That's just a decorative turkey.

Medicare prescription drug benefit? That's just a decorative turkey.

Excluding spending, Bush has cut spending? That's just a decorative turkey.

The decorative turkey (supplied by Halliburton, of course) is an all encompassing metaphor for the Bush preidency.

9. 'That much seems to be true'?
Notice the reporter doesn't report the Baghdad visit as an absolute fact. I can understand their reluctance. I've gotten so cynical about this administration that I question every statement or image I see.

From what I can tell from the stuff we've seen about the Thanksgiving photo-op, Bush* could have been at any military post, or wandering around an old M*A*S*H set surrounded by extras. I haven't seen a pic of Air Force One on the Baghdad ramp, Bush* entering or leaving a building clearly identifiable as being in Baghdad, etc.

Of course, I was also curious why we didn't get images/video of Bush* climbing into and out of the Navy jet he was a passenger on during the "Mission Accomplished" photo-op. Or in-flight video, like the Blue Angels use when they take local news personalities for gee-whiz flights a few days before a show. It would have been natural to cut from the shot of the landing plane to an inside-cockpit shot of Bush* shitting in his pants.

There are times I think Rove has watched "Capricorn One" too many times.

10. Terrific article. Very interesting images come to mind
He had a captive audience. They couldn't walk off. I hope they all tell their friends just what they think of Bush when they make it home.

What a cold, indifferent manipulator. Makes you sick.

14. Instead of Hail to the Chief, they need to play The Great Pretender
Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Pretending that I’m doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I’m lonely but no one can tell

Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I’ve played the game but to my real shame
You’ve left me to grieve all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal

Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal

Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around
