Bush says Democrats would raise taxes
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/bush

MACON, Ga. - President Bush portrayed Democrats on Tuesday as the party of big spending and high taxes, aiming to give increasingly endangered Republicans an edge in a midterm election debate dominated recently by congressional scandal and overseas crises.

"If you want to keep your tax cuts, vote Republican on Nov. 7," Bush said at a fundraiser for former Republican Rep. Mac Collins, who is seeking a comeback to Congress. He is challenging Rep. Jim Marshall (news, bio, voting record), seen as one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents.

"Next month, our nation has got this choice to make," the president said. "Do we keep taxes low so we can keep this economy growing? Or do we let the Democrats in Washington raise taxes and hurt the economic vitality of this country? ... This decision will have a huge impact on the working people all across the United States of America."

On Tuesday, though, the parts of Bush's remarks that went after Democrats on taxes were given to the reporters traveling with the president on Air Force One and also, to maximize their exposure, disseminated by e-mail to hundreds more on the White House press list.

35. Yes, Democrats will raise taxes.
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 12:08 PM by jayctravis
That's what Clinton did and everything balanced.

Mr. Bush is so fucking used to having an unlimited credit card in his personal life, he thinks that extends to the entire country.

Democrats will raise taxes on big business and rich people by repealing his tax cuts and maybe making them higher with pollution taxes. Anyone making over 250k a year who whines about this is selfish.

Common folk like you and me will stay in the same tax bracket...those are the people the rightwing likes to scare by yelling "Democrats will raise your taxes!" The righties tend to mistakenly believe they are in the same financial bracket as we are.

What they mean is, "Democrats will raise MY taxes!!"

8. To be fiscally responsible the Dems will have to cut spending and raise
revenue.

There is a huge debt to service.

There are huge national infrastructure problems.

The Military, particularly the Army, Marines and R/NG have huge needs regarding repair, refitting and replacement of capital equipment.

10. Any homeowners see their property taxes double or triple?
Health care costs go up? Hundreds of new fees crop up in the last four-five years?

We sure have in Minnesota.

Gov. Pawlenty, a Repuke with his head far up Bush-Cheney's ass, tried to cut Meals on Wheels for shut-in seniors and our sliding fee health care program for the working poor in order to pay for Bush's tax cut (x 2) for the wealthiest.

Only truly clueless or evil rich people buy that crap about "raising taxes" anymore.

17. Funny story about the tax assessments and the housing boom
Not many people like to talk about this but the tax assessments went up all over the place just after W got in office because Federal Government funding to localities dried up due to the first round of tax cuts. Localities were forced to raise assessments (not rates mind you that would be "raising taxes" ) and the housing market bubble was expanded.

They do all have something to do with the other.

18. Democrats ought to point out that these crooks
are robbing the SS trust fund to give themselves big tax cuts and huge pork-barrel sweetheart contracts for their goddamn stupid war in Iraq and that yes once again the Democratic Party is going to have to clean up the mess that the theives and liars in the Republican Party have made. It is going to be hard work cleaning up this mess, as this is one of the worst messes these crooks have ever made, and we just might have to restore most of the corrupt and unsustainable tax cuts they gave themselves in order to protect social security and medicare, but we americans are hard working responsible people and we are up to the challenge.

Instead we will run away from the tax issue.

We can handle the knowledge that the US is now a nation that supports torture, we can deal with the fact that we illegally invaded another country and have royally screwed them up for generations to come, we can handle the fact that our planet is disintegrating and that the Republican party is laced with crooks and perverts, but FOR GOD'S SAKE, don't raise taxes! That would just be too awful for words.

21. "the party of big spending"
Is this man even in reality - ever? We as a country and esp. dear ole bush and company we should be ashamed of ourselves at what we owe in debts. Thanks to the egomaniac in office and the lame excuse for a Congress, who have been spending our monies faster then we can afford - including the billions of dollars our govern. is putting into war with no idea in sight when that will stop. As well as the unbelievable deficit that we owe - which the b.s. bush did NOT inherit from the Clinton Admin. And that deficit according to reports includes a daily average of borrowing from China of approx. 2 billion dollars -- that of course is on top of what we already owe. If that alone doesn't bring a huge red flag to us a so-called "Super Power", then what exactly do the American people think it means in terms of politics and having to a** kiss with China in return?

And how could I forget junior's views on spending of our hard earned money through taxes -- right after the Nov. 04 election he openly bragged that he earned this money and heeez agonna spend it! And he sure has.

Republicans like to appease the public by promising lower taxes. Sounds great, except they can't have it both ways. Not unless they have some amazing magical powers. With the debts we owe plus other spending, unless they can come up with better solutions - not promises, but solutions to pay off those debts and get us out of the red, then like it or not, it will have to involve raising taxes. I live in reality, not their fantasy world.

Since jagoff has been in office I've seen my Student Loan rates go up, I've seen the price of nearly everything ESPECIALLY groceries go up thanks to the spikes in inflation, and I've seen gas prices more than double what I remember them to be.

Meantime the corporations, churches, and mega rich get to wallow in their tax breaks while I have to do my part to make up for their share.

36. I cannot believe that democrats don't know how to counter this tactic.
It has to be done in everyday terms and it's so EASY..

example:

Your kid's college account has $50K in it..

your drunken uncle gets his hands on your account information, and uses the money for a spectacular parties for his friends..

you discover the loss, and need the money back..

are you asking for him to GIVE you 50K or are you asking him to "pay you back"?

our government TOOK social security OVERAGES and gave it to rich people in the form of INCOME TAX REDUCTIONS..

Rich people only pay FICA on the first $87K they earn ...Most of us pay FICA on every penny WE earn, while a rich person "maxxes out" in the first few minutes of every new fiscal year.
