AP, networks fight Nevada law restricting exit polls(+ABC-CNN-Fox-CBS-NBC)

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada law that bars exit polling near voting places violates the press' constitutional rights, a lawsuit filed by The Associated Press and five television networks alleges.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas says a state law that prohibits the questioning of people about their votes within 100 feet of a polling place violates the First and the 14th Amendments.

Susan Buckley, the New York attorney representing the news organizations, said the lawsuit naming Secretary of State Dean Heller was followed by a request Wednesday to U.S. District Judge Phil Pro for a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of the distance requirement.

The AP and the five television networks - ABC, CNN, CBS, Fox News and NBC - formed a consortium to collect exit-polling data in Nevada and other states.

Just an aside to this story, SOS Heller was the Sequoia whore who pimped those machines on the state before the last presidential elections. Today he is running for Congress.

Exit polls are the last bastion of truth about election results. There needs to be zero tolerance of laws that would restrict exit polling.
