Spain hails Syria's stance on Lebanon
Miguel Angel Moratinos, Spain's foreign minister, has described as "very positive" Syria's attitude to a two-month-old truce in Lebanon which Spanish troops are helping enforce.

Moratinos said: "We got a very positive response from the Syrian authorities that they want to cooperate and be constructive in the consolidation of implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701."

---

The Spanish minister, who also came to Damascus in March, is the most senior Western official who continues to visit the Syrian capital and drew strong US criticism earlier this year for his defiance of Washington's efforts to sideline the Syrian regime.

---

Ahmad Fatfat, Lebanon's acting interior minister, has said Syria is bent on destabilising Lebanon, whose security forces, he said, are not yet strong enough to prevent more possible assassination attempts.

1. Syria is bent on destabilising ???
Oh and the acting Lebanese interior minister, didn't notice that little month-long war that destroyed his country and killed his people...he sees that in the same category as the Hariri assassination?

The assassination which could have been just 'settling scores' among crime bosses is as likely as any other 'fear fable' brought to us by the usual camp of pathological liars who have tipped their hand long ago as to what they really desire...chaos and the endless, but profitable wars for resources that comes out of it.

I have no doubt that Mr. Fatfat is much more concerned by possible assassination attempts by political rivals...no doubt at all.

2. Hizbullah and Aoun seem to be good friends now.
Syria appears to be one of the big beneficiaries of the Second Lebanon War, at least in its relations with Lebanon. The Hariri fellows are feeling a bit embattled, hence the attempts to dissuade and distract. Mr. Fatfat's concerns are probably well-founded, Nasrallah has mentioned an eventual "settling of accounts", and there have been several strange acts of violence in Beirut in the last couple days.
