Vanity Fair takes celeb war to Bush
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-922788,00.html

AMERICA’S best-known celebrity glossy, Vanity Fair, is becoming an organ of the Bush-bashing left under Graydon Carter, the editor, who is writing a book excoriating the American president.
Carter, a debonair figure in New York society, is at home with the Hollywood A-list, fashion designers, intellectuals and billionaires. His foppish style, luxuriant hair and insouciance towards the city’s no-smoking laws are much commented on in the gossip columns. Unexpectedly, he is also becoming known as “Graydon the Red”.

But the magazine has also acquired an angry and crusading edge. In the January 2004 issue Carter berates Bush for a death count in Iraq that is “out of control”, the absence of weapons of mass destruction and the presence of large numbers of Iraqi rocket-propelled grenades. He adds: “While Tony Blair may have a schoolboy’s crush on our current president, the English can’t stand him.”

In the December issue, Carter listed the “achievements” of the present White House in scorecard form. Among them: “0 — number of coffins of dead soldiers returning home that the Bush administration has allowed to be photographed; 1 — first American president to ignore the Geneva conventions on warfare.”

1. Perhaps Editor Carter realizes that there is a substantial
consumer base for articles and attitudes that are anti-bu$h. Most of the country did NOT vote for the cowardly little fuck, yet the vast majority of print and broadca$t media has been fervently supporting him since the summer of 2000.

There is substantial money to be made by appealing to people who hate bu$h. And the number of "haters" is growing by the minute!

Good on Graydon Carter.

5. I remember a fawning photo spread on * and various admin officials
I've subscribed to Vanity Fair for years - mainly for the crimes of the rich and famous articles. The * photo spread disgusted me so I'll anxiously await the December issue. Sounds like a winner!

6. Yep, I refused to renew after that and I've been a long time
subscriber.

The December issue has a great article about the battle for judges called "Bush's Court Advantage"

There's also an in depth report about the Air Force Academy rape scandal.

I can't stand Dominick Dunne though; I've read most of his novels but I've come to the conclusion that he's just a shallow gossipy old man.
