Harris' chance to change minds
October 22, 2006

After a slew of public campaign gaffes, it’s to be expected that most people tuning into tonight’s first U.S. Senate debate will be more focused on Katherine Harris than Bill Nelson.

Harris, a Republican congresswoman from the Sarasota area who is trailing in polls, is under far more pressure than Democrat Nelson, an incumbent who has endured the scrutiny of a live televised debate before.

With just two weeks before the Nov. 7 election, the debate offers Harris one of the most critical chances of the race to present a positive, moderate image to a broad, bipartisan section of voters.

“It’s important to me,” Harris said last week. “It’s been important to me since Day 1.”

Oh this should be fun.

1. We should run a book on...
...whether her head will rotate 360 degrees before or after she starts vomiting the pea soup.

If Nelson provokes her just right, we could be in for a truly legendary meltdown.

5. From the article: What to watch for
>snip<
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Experts say Sen. Bill Nelson and Rep. Katherine Harris will be more successful if they strive for these goals during the debate:

Bill Nelson
• Don’t get flustered even if she makes outrageous accusations.
• Avoid his somewhat wooden demeanor and appear relaxed.
• Give clear, concise answers and don’t get bogged down in details.

Katherine Harris
• Don’t attack, instead compare and contrast.
• Move to the middle. Be more moderate in answers on issues.
• Look and act professional.
>snip<

a few additional tips for Kat -
Bring the possum.
Mention your lead in your straw poll - call all other polls silly.
Make sure running mates (Spunk and Moxie) get ample air time.
Insert 'widow's mite' repeatedly into the discussion.
Remind viewers of your commitment to get George selected.
Refresh everyone's memory that you are not a 'target' of FBI investigation.
Bring up 'non-Christians legislate sin' and how God wants you to win.
Don't dribble your extra hot venti triple latte, no fat, no foam, one Sweet'n Low
Tell us you donated a tree to replace the one that fell on that hangar

ok, I'm stopping - for now. It's too early in the morning for this, and I've gotta go make sure we've got some popcorn in the pantry.

Please tell me you all will 'watch this with me' and start a thread somewhere so we can share the debate this evening.

Oh, and Kat? You might want to hold off on the caffeine and have a few double shots before the appearance so you won't be nervous. Burn, baby, burn.

21. Let's see . . .
Ms. Harris has to pull out all the stops.

She'll stand behind the podium, face to camera and torso at three-quarters, take a deep breath, expand her chest and say . . .

Let me get out front on this issue . . . .

The Nelson will talk about her campaign finiances.

Oh, oh, she says. Busted!
