Opponent denies calling Clinton ugly

By MARC HUMBERT, Associated Press Writer 23 minutes ago

ALBANY, N.Y. - Sen.
Hillary Clinton's Republican challenger on Monday flatly denied telling a reporter that Clinton was unattractive when she was younger and suggesting she had had "millions of dollars" of "work."

John Spencer, a former Yonkers mayor, acknowledged talking to the reporter during a flight on Friday but said he didn't make the statements attributed to him in Monday's New York Daily News.

"It's a fabrication. I would never call Hillary Clinton ugly," Spencer told The Associated Press. "That's outrageous. I didn't do it."

The reporter, Ben Smith, told the AP that Spencer made the comments as Spencer, his wife and Smith sat together. He said he didn't tape-record the comments but did take notes.

"You ever see a picture of her back then? Whew. I don't know why Bill married her," The Daily News quoted Spencer as saying about Clinton.

1. its 2006 and this MAN is dissing Hil for facelifts! little man with a l

little mind!

..Spencer said Clinton looks different now, chalking it up to "millions of dollars" of "work," according to the tabloid.

"She looks good now," he is quoted as saying.

Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson said Clinton has had no plastic surgery or similar appearance-enhancing work.

"Sadly, this is just the latest in a long line of insulting and offensive comments that John Spencer has made throughout his career, and it's unfortunate that he has chosen to run a campaign based on personal attacks," the Clinton aide said.

Polls have shown Clinton far ahead of Spencer in the Senate race.

3. Wasn't there, don't know what Spencer did or didn't say.
But that misogynist cologne he's got on is a bit strong.

No one should be downwind from it in 2008 A.D., and he's smart enough to know that -- if he said what he's accused of.

School kids bullying the smart girl in their class.

Bad form.

I hope Senator Clinton whips this guy's ass in two weeks.

8. Here's a headline you never see:
"Republican tells truth." Well, except when followed by a description of how he or she denied it up until irrefutable evidence was about to be released to the press.

Just kidding.

She's a handsome lady for her age but I doubt she's had "millions of dollars of work" done.

27. Yeah, really Hillary is attractive
but if she had spent millions of dollars she would have more to show for it than the way she looks now. Hillary would probably have that pulled up tight face that is common for those that have had work done.

15. I imagine she's attractive enough
to be one of the "family values" Republicans first or second wives. I mean, those guys love marriage so much, they have at least 3 or 4 marriages. So, Hillary might not be as hot as the current wife, but then she's Bill's only wife. Imagine that. A dog like Bill, and I say that with all respect - cause I love Bill - stays married.
Meanwhile, the Clintons and the rest of us are lectured on family values by the multiply-divorced crowd.
It's not the divorces I find objectionable. It's the carping lecturing on marriage from people who clearly have their own issues on marriage which bothers me. I mean these are people who want the "defense of marriage" act and want "covenant marriages" - which would make divorce more difficult. Well, more difficult for "other" people. Not for Newt.
Ah, Republican hypocrisy. As American as Old Glory.

18. She's been attacked viciously:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_Clinton

* On November 6, 1992, three days after her father won the elections, in a reference to who is moving in and out of White House, Rush Limbaugh made a reference on his television show to Chelsea and Millie, the dog of outgoing President George H. W. Bush. At the moment where Limbaugh said "cute kid," the picture of Millie appeared onscreen. Limbaugh apologized during that show and gave a lengthier apology a few days later. <6>

* Senator John McCain circulated a joke that Chelsea's "real father" was Janet Reno, for which he later apologized personally to the President. <7>

Good for her for taking it all in stride.

19. Parsing the denial
Sen. Hillary Clinton's Republican challenger on Monday flatly denied telling a reporter that Clinton was unattractive when she was younger and suggesting she had had "millions of dollars" of "work."

The denial - "It's a fabrication. I would never call Hillary Clinton ugly."

But that wasn't what the article said, was it? He's narrowly denying a statement he was never alleged to have made, while avoiding denying the statements he DID make. So it's not, technically, a lie when he denies it. Do they send Republicans to a special school to learn how to weasel like this?

They do this all the time. It gets tedious. The courts use the phrase "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" for a good reason.

I was looking for a photo of Mr. John Spencer (only fair), and found this photo of Spencer & his trophy wife prominently displayed on his web page. http://www.spencerforsenate.com/ He is currently married for the third time, to a woman much younger & blonder than he is. She was his former "chief of staff", and he had two children w/her while still married to his second wife.

"He married Kathy Spring, his third wife, and they have three children together, two of whom were born while Spencer was married to his second wife and while Spring was serving as Spencer's mayoral chief of staff. Spring's annual salary, which started at $52,000, increased to $138,000 by the time she and Spencer both left office. Spencer did not publicly acknowledge the affair until 2002."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Spencer_(politician)

But he apparantly feels free to judge other people. Such a pack of hypocrites, these Republicans.

33. Spencer certainly isn't anything to look at.

His trophy wife wouldn't never looked at him if he didn't have his money.

And regardless of what Hillary looks like, his remarks were totally inappropriate, and this clueless, immature, bullying, patriarchal son of a Repukican, would never have said this about a man.
