Iran: Ahmadinejad Calls For Demographic Revolution

After two decade of policies by previous Iranian governments to contain the growth of the country's population, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called on Iranians to have more children.

After the initial demographic boom, when the population doubled following Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979, Iran initiated a plan in 1988 to control the birth rate, based on a major campaign promoting the use of contraception. The country succeeded in reducing the growth rate of the population from 3.2 to 1.4 percent per year. Now however Ahmadinejad has said he would like to take u-turn in this policy.

"I don't agree with those who say that there is no need to have more than two children," said Ahmadinejad speaking to parliamentarians in Iran. He then went on to say that the government intends to reduce the number of hours women are required to work, in relation to the number of children they have.

"The West fears more than anything else, our population growth and we must defeat them in this battle," he said.

The media did the same thing right before we illegally and pre-emptively attacked Iraq with NO PROOF of Sadam having WMD's. Aren't you just a bit skeptical about all the HYPE regarding the Iranian leader? And notice HOW MUCH OF IT we see posted everyday?

IIRC, it lowered the median age in Iran by about 10-20 years.

Ahmednejid is a fan of Khomeini, who encouraged that first baby boom. The demographic drop in median wge was due to the baby boom, however. Wars don't really affect median demographics that much, since the people dying are so close to the median age anyway. In fact, in some cases war can make your median age older.

I forget which moron of theirs did this. But one Foxwad said we needed more white babies because of the demographic shift in the country. The fact is that one of the leading causes of war, famine, terrorism, oil depletion, urban decay, job loss, and upsurge in fundamentalism is world over population. We've always had the occasional tsunami on this planet. It's just in the last few generations that the world is so crowded that people die by the bucketload from them.

They'll overshoot their carrying capacity and will be too busy worrying about feeding their people to cause much trouble in the region.
Unless they go to war to acquire the resources they need to sustain that bloated population.

He wants women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. He is out of luck. Iranian women are not going to give up control of how many births they have to suit him.

But he wasn't in ANY position of power until after Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech and the misdirection of our resources from Afghanistan to Iraq. Iran had a reform movement until Bush's illegal invasion of Iraq forced reformists into silence.
