is that when this illegal war began most americans were gung ho for it becuase we were going to "kick ass" When it became apparent that the only ass being kicked, both politically and financially, then all of a sudden support eroded.

It is a LOSE-LOSE situation. Nobody wins. Too many die or get wounded. People's lives are shattered, changed forever. Kids see horror like you and I could never imagine.

Actually, you know who wins? The freaking terrorists. Because while our resources are in Iraq they run free.

The insurgents are winning. Or rather, the insurgents are winning in Anbar, and the Shia militias, particularly the jas al-Mahdi is winning in Baghdad and in the south. The Iraqi government is a laughable shell, a corrptocracy of first magnitude and little more, and Moqtada al-Sadr runs half the country through extra-judicial proxy armies.

The only reason Americans say "no one is winning" is because the vision set forth by Bush and so dearly held by so many is very obviously a failure, if not a catastrophe. The insurgents object is to cause sufficient chaos to control territory. They have succeeded in that goal, parading like fucking VFW dignitaries down the streets of Ramadi, as if the USMC wasn't in close vicinity. The Sadrists have very obviously achieved many of their own objections, and are literally in de facto control of many parts of Baghdad, and almost the whole of the populated regions of the Shia south. That means, my American friends, that they're winning. However much you don't want to admit it...
