Daschle: Democrats will pick up seven U.S. Senate seats

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle predicted on Monday that Democrats will pick up seven U.S. Senate seats this year and said his party needs to "restore the confidence that has been lost about Congress."

Daschle, who was Senate Democratic Leader when he lost to Republican John Thune in 2004, also predicted his party would pick up around 25 seats in the U.S. House.

"It looks awfully good," Daschle said on C-SPAN's Washington Journal.

19. Yes it does. However, I have to say
I don't think Ford will take Tennessee. Have a lot of relatives up there and they say Corker has a lot of support from people who might actually vote. Plus Ford's showing up at that thing really turned a lot of people off.

I'm really not all that sold on MO actually, especially with it being the deep south. Its possible we may take it; though, turnout is going to be key.

Not exactly. I assume you mean in temperament more than in actual geography but even at that MO is a far cry from Alabama. Outside of Branson anyway :)

Note, my prediction is 5 minimum Senate seats and 7 maximum Senate seats gained. VA and TN are the two wild cards. The other 5 are obvious. And obviously I predict we'll hold NJ.

24. They have - he was expected this year to win in a landslide
He's a relatively popular former governor. Nobody expected this race to even be competitive unless Mark Warner ran.

Right now, Webb is beating Allen in Northern Virginia. His main problems are that he's not picking up enough downstate voters as was expected or hoped for and he's having trouble with women voters. He's kind of stiff as a campaigner, whereas Allen is a schmoozer.

23. Weather
I hate to say it but in some of the close races bad weather could tip the scale. Rain and snow always seem to suppress Democratic votes. A friend of mine commented that OH was lost in '04 when he saw rain move into Cleveland. It probably doesn't help if you have to wait more than 20 minutes to cast a ballot. What is it with Dems and rain???

up on Nov 8th.

We see predictions here all the time...from all sorts of folks. It's part of the election talk.
