Company Recalls Beef Due To Potential Of E. coli
No Illnesses Have Been Reported

HARTFORD, Conn. -- A Connecticut company is recalling about 1,680 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli, state officials and the company said Monday.

The problem was discovered through routine microbiological testing by the federal Food Safety Inspection Service. The FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with the product.

Omaha Beef Co. Inc., based in Danbury, Conn., recalled its 10-pound boxes of hamburger patties and 5- and 10-pound bags of hamburger. Each package carries the establishment number "Est. 2769" and USDA inspection code "101861."

Consumers are urged to return the products to the place of purchase.

1. DO NOT buy your ground beef, people. Buy beef in large chunks
(round steak, chuck roast, etc) and GRIND IT YOURSELF. Or at the very least, have the butcher grind it right there for you, not mixing it with other grindings.

3. why all these food scares all of a sudden? More "terra" or to get us
used to viral sprays on our food/big pharma makes more millions. There was a Food Safety Education Conference - September 27, 2006

The opening statement says absolutely nothing that we don't already know, other than Homeland Security is now in the mix. So what gives and why now - and don't tell me it's all because of a tainted batch of spinach - we had the tainted meat scare a few years back ans as usual little to nothing was done other than to cut the number of inspectors who could be out there inspecting product.

Uh, no. It increases the general sense of incompetence and failure. We know it wasn't like this before they gutted government agencies and filled them with worthless cronies.

and what do you know about viral sprays on foods as being "good for us"?
