MIAMI (AP) -- Another former altar boy says he was sexually abused in the 1970s by the same retired Catholic priest who acknowledged fondling former Rep. Mark Foley when Foley was a teenager, the man's attorney said Wednesday.

The new allegations against the Rev. Anthony Mercieca were made by a man who lived in North Miami and was an altar boy at St. James Catholic Church, where Mercieca worked, attorney Jeffrey Herman said.

Herman said he planned to file a lawsuit Wednesday against the Archdiocese of Miami. His client, now 40 and identified in the lawsuit only as John Doe No. 26, says Mercieca abused him when he was about 12 years old.

''He had been thinking about it before Foley came forward, and then when Foley came out and the church encouraged other victims to come forward, he decided to come forward,'' Herman said.

Mercieca, 69, now lives on the Maltese island of Gozo in the Mediterranean....

By admitting that he was the victim of a pedophile---Foley is demonstrating that he was a pedophile himself.

Foley's actions clearly illustrate that he was an unhealed victim who dealt with his trauma by becoming an abuser. If anything,
this succession of events (Foley abused--->Foley abuses) locks Foley into a no-excuses, clear-cut case of him being a predator.
He did to others, what was done to him.

No longer can Foley say that he's not a pedophile. We have very distinct proof now that Foley is part of an abuse chain. He
didn't get help and break the cycle of abuse. He perpetuated it.

None of this excuses what Foley did. No one is saying that. At all. There are reasons why people abuse. Those reasons
do not make child molestation ok. The perverse and tragic path to pedophile actions is about trauma and being victimized.
People are not born into the world as pedophiles. Pedophiles are made. Understanding that doesn't make the crime any less
serious.

There is no wiggle room for Foley now. Everyone knows what he is, and now he must face his past, and who he has become.
When this first came out, Foley did downplay it all, "I never hurt anyone. I am ashamed. I only did it this once...etc."

Now, we know the truth. Foley's past solidifies the notion that the predator was once preyed upon. He can no longer deny
what he is. His pathology is laid out on the table, for all to see.

Foley's excuse?

abuses surface 20 and more years later, when the victims are ready to come forth and are prepared for the ugly repercussions. IT WILL HAPPEN WITH THE PAGES.
