Republicans losing ground with US women
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Women voters, notably married moms, are turning away from the ruling Republican Party in the run-up to US legislative elections due, in part, to dissatisfaction with the Iraq war and domestic issues.

Polls and analysts say that unlike the 2002 and 2004 elections, when terrorism concerns and other security-related issues drove many women to support President George W. Bush and his Republican Party, these factors are no longer playing a key role.

"Women voters are turning more Democratic now than they were four years ago," Carroll Doherty, associate director of the Pew Research Center in Washington, told AFP. "Four years ago Republicans were running about even with Democrats among women, but now you see a big gain for the Democrats among women."

A poll conducted by the Pew Center in early October had 55 percent of women voters expressing support for the Democratic Party as opposed to 34 percent for the Republican Party.

1. Nice to see more American women decide to stop being victims.
Maybe the moms are waking up to exactly what bush's "total war" means for the future of their children.

4. REAL CLEAR POLITICS claims this is faulty polling during Steeler games
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 11:39 AM by BurgherHoldtheLies
No, I'm not kidding. They blamed bad poll numbers today (for Melissa Hart (R-femaleSantorum) in PA-04 which showed Democrat Jason Altmire within the MOE) on the Steelers.:eyes:

<snip for Real Clear Politics>
Footnote: I am not a pollster, but it struck me as very peculiar that the Trib would commission a poll for last weekend in Pittsburgh. On Saturday, Pitt played Rutgers at Heinz Field. On Sunday, the Steelers played the Falcons. How many men do you think answered the phone over the weekend? If I was back in my dear hometown district (or, should I say, "hometahn district"), I know that I would have hung up right quick (a head counter for the local Alderman actually showed up at my door during the 2nd Quarter of the Steelers game -- and I don't think I have ever been so quick to tell somebody "No thank you!"). I can't help but wonder: is this sample representative of the 4th? I doubt that it is. The 4th was watching Panther and Steeler football (a bad, bad, bad weekend, I must say...). Does that help one candidate or another? My sense is that it helps Altmire. Most of the voting population of the 4th is the northern suburbs in Allegheny and Butler Counties -- and football fans there tend to be white men, i.e. anti-tax Republican voters.

Oh ya, he also claims that Hart's warchest will make her poll numbers all better too.

6. The whole country is turning bluer.
The Repukes have painted themselves into a corner. They've fallen down and can't get up. They've made their bed and now must sleep in it. They're reaping the whirlwind.

9. Could it be
that we are tried of them killing our children? We put so much time and effort into our kids, for most of their lives, and the Republicans brainwash them and set them out in Iraq with no possible winnable position.

About damn time, me thinks.

10. My money is on...

...the Repug guys in R-R marriages becoming more and more obnoxious each year BushCo is in power, and being especially obnoxious now that they feel threatened. Could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and makes connedservative moms take a good look at our country.

11. I have never understood the "W is for Women" campaign.
For a long time I could not fathom how any female could vote Republican. Now I can't figure out how any self-respecting human being could vote GOP.

You're assuming that most people know enough to vote based on facts.

Most Americans unfortunately get their news from TV and the radio and news is heavily polluted by propaganda on the airwaves. Republican talking points are treated as reality by the broadcast media and many newspapers.

The only way anyone knows what's going on is to read the internet and foreign papers.

Unfortunately, Joe and Jane Sixpack are about as well informed as the citizens of the former Soviet Union watching state TV.

14. And You Should See How the Single Women Treat Them!
Individually and as a group, the GOP is losing in the Survival of the Fittest. A classic example of Natural Selection. (And since they don't believe in Evolution, the GOP is headed for extinction! Requiem in Pacem)
