Stem Cell Oponents to Air Celebrity Ad
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan will start Game 4 of the World Series, Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006. Suppan appears in an ad telling Missouri voters to reject a controversial stem-cell law. (Getty Images)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(CBS/AP) In an effort to shoot down a controversial measure that would legalize stem cell research in Missouri — and rebut an advertisement featuring Michael J. Fox that supports the law — opponents will respond with their own celebrity-filled ad that will air during Game 4 of the World Series Wednesday night.

An added twist to the opponents' response is that St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan appears in the ad and will be the starter Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.

Joining Suppan are celebrities such as NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, actors Jim Caviezel and Patricia Heaton, and, baseball player Mike Sweeney. Caviezel played the role of Jesus in the film, "The Passion of the Christ."

Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 12:05 PM by TlalocW
I would not have known who those people were. I have a feeling that you showed that to most people who were kids up to their early 20s in the 1980s, and they would have a hard time naming who they are as well.

Michael J. Fox though is burned into our nation's psyche as Michael Keaton and Marty McFly.

motherfuckers sign a pledge stating they will never accept any medical advances we get from stem cell research for them or their family members.

They would have opposed Edison inventing the lightbulb.

13. Yes, that's her
She's the right wing celeb du jour. She always pipes in - i.e. with the Terry Sciavo case. She tries to make a big point about being against the death penalty but seeing as how that is also an extension of her religious beliefs, it doesn't change the fact that she is pro-theocracy.

35. Patricia Heaton's a smug shill who can't get enough of herself
Saw her on either Leno or Letterman awhile back and at first I didn't recognize her 'cuz unlike everybody apparently, I hate Raymond et al ('cept the brother, you know, whats-his face).
Then I realized who she was and couldn't believe how self congratulatory she was for doing that crappy show.

Nothing beats Jim Caviezel starting off the ad by speaking in Aramaic.

It would be hilarious if not for the fact that he's being dead serious.

37. 400,000 Human Embryos Frozen in U.S.
400,000 Human Embryos Frozen in U.S.
Number at Fertility Clinics Is Far Greater Than Previous Estimates, Survey Finds

Note: Rand Corp. is a right-wing organization and puts their spin on the study.
I have to wonder if the study was biased due to Rand Corp, but even if it was biased...

"The nationwide survey found that the parents of at least 11,000 embryos have given explicit permission for their embryos to be made available for research."

"About 3 percent were earmarked for research; 2 percent for destruction and a like number for donation to women; and 1 percent for quality-assurance studies. Most of the rest -- about 87 percent of the total -- were reserved for ongoing fertility efforts.

The survey, detailed in the May issue of the journal Fertility and Sterility, did not ascertain how long embryos had been in storage -- a detail some experts said would make clear that most embryos saved for further fertility work are unlikely to be used for making babies. Frozen embryos can remain viable for a decade or more, but with each passing year, couples are increasingly unlikely to use them, because they have either given birth or given up."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A27495-2003May7¬Found=true

So these 11,000 embryos (really pre-embryos) would not end up implanted anyway.

24. The actor that played Jesus in Mel Gibson's Passion speaks Aramaic
in the ad. Unfortunately for him, the real Jesus would have approved of stem cell research, as he would have approved of same sex marriage, and opposed torture and the war in Iraq.

So they are rewarding him with more future turkeys. Why do you think most actors who shill for the repukes are C-list at best? Because they are trying to resurrect thier dead or dying careers.

Oh that's right. He's dead.

Pretty much like Patricia Heaton's career. Kathy Griffin can at least take comfort in knowing that there's a circle of celebrity hell lower than the "D List."

On Edit: Turns out the Shecky Greene is still alive. Who knew? Is he available to do a RNC commercial?
