Foley in treatment in Tucson, Ariz., his attorneys say

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley is being treated for alcoholism at a facility in Arizona, his attorneys said Wednesday.

Foley has been in a 30-day treatment program at the Sierra Tucson treatment center in Catalina, Ariz., near Tucson, since Oct. 1, according to a joint statement released by his attorneys in West Palm Beach and Washington, D.C.

Foley resigned from Congress last month after he was confronted with sexually explicit computer communications he had sent to male teenage pages who worked on Capitol Hill. His attorneys have since revealed that Foley is gay, suffers from alcohol addiction and was molested by a Catholic priest as a teenage altar boy.

Authorities are investigating whether Foley broke any state or federal laws, and a House ethics committee is currently questioning members of Congress about what they knew and when regarding Foley's inappropriate contact with the teenagers.

Oh, wait, this might answer it: Authorities are investigating whether Foley broke any state or federal laws. Silly me, I thought that sexually preying on minors was illegal. At least, I'm sure the cops would take a lot less time deciding, like maybe right after I'm booked...

Foley's rehab center in Arizona known for catering to the stars

Since resigning from Congress last month, former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley has been a patient at a sprawling rehab center to the stars: a 160-acre campus in the Sonoran Desert north of Tucson, Ariz., where a month of therapy costs more than $40,000.

Foley's lawyers confirmed Wednesday that he checked into a 30-day alcohol treatment program at Sierra Tucson on Oct. 1, two days after he left office amid reports that he exchanged sexually explicit Internet messages with former congressional pages.

His stint in the program puts a congressman known to hobnob with Hollywood big shots in a place where many of the biggest names in television, music and the sports world have gone during their darkest hours.

Sierra Tucson has addressed substance abuse, eating disorders and grief management for the likes of Whitney Houston, Michael Douglas, Nicole Richie, Ringo Starr, Rob Lowe, Julie Andrews and Kim Delaney.

in Arizona. This was a very professional treatment program when my brother-in-law attended back in the early 90's. I do not know if they are as confrontational in the pursuit of rigorous honesty today as they were then. If they are, then Foley will be feeling the "heat" from the facilitators by now to get honest.

The daily rate for patients includes room and board and group therapy. The MAS daily rate includes room and board, initial laboratory testing, basic admission psychological screening tool, nutritional and fitness assessments, and group therapy. Specific psychological testing may be provided at additional charge(s).

Family therapy is provided at no extra charge, regardless of how many family members attend the Family Program. This includes an average two-day stay in MAS and an estimate of average separately billed services/ancillary charges.* Your total cost will vary, based on your level of acuity, individual needs, length of stay, and ancillary charges. Financing is available upon approval. Private-pay patients are eligible to receive a 5% cash discount for payment prior to admission or a 3% discount for payment upon admission.

*Separately billed services included in the estimate of ancillary charges: Initial psychiatric evaluation ($350), history and physical examination ($190), physician visits or consultations (average $65 per visit), medications (average $1,500 - $2,000), and one EMDR therapy session ($150 per session).

Separately billed services not included in the estimate of ancillary charges: Additional laboratory testing, additional psychological testing, acupuncture (ear lobe $35; full-body $110), and psychiatric technician services (if necessary).

Sure they pay for the fee but we all know we really pay for it. Funny paying these men more money was to keep them from being crooks. I recall the fight to start giving them more money years ago. What was the quote about it being our own class of crooks, Congress.
