Dean wins endorsement of Virginia congressman
Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean picked up an endorsement Sunday from the only black in Virginia's congressional delegation.

Rep. Robert C. Scott cited Dean's commitment to civil rights, education and health care for all Americans.

"We welcome a leader who says what he thinks, a leader who will make the tough choices necessary to return us to fiscal responsibility and high employment, a leader who will take us to a better America," Scott told a crowd of nearly 400 Dean supporters at a Virginia Beach hotel.

Scott praised Dean for saying that the United States should not have gotten involved so quickly in a war against Iraq.

1. Follow the money
I wonder how much Scott got for his endorsement? The Dean campaign has a history of "scratch your back, scratch my back"

Around the hall, the Dean presence was strong, owing to the campaign's $50,000 donation to the state party, made upon a request from party officials that other campaigns declined.

8. is that all?
He was helping the democratic party. whats wrong with that. I mean when Dean becomes president he would need the House and Senate in de mocratic hands. Dean needs to have bills pass you know

9. Why would you try to deceive us with these statements?
The article plainly states that all the candidates were given the chance to donate to the Florida party and only Dean was decent enough to do so. If the others had thought enough of the state to donate to their own party they would have had space on the floor as well.

There's been no purpose to anything you've said here other than to incite others with lies and deception. Is that what you're purposely trying to do?

18. Well, it certainly would appear
that they're selling endorsements to any candidate willing to give them money. That seems a bit shallow to me.

What do you mean "given the chance to donate?" Nobody's given a chance to donate - we're all given a chance to donate all the time. The point is, they tried to shake down the Democratic candidates for contributions in exchange for endorsements, and all refused save one.

My post was redundant. Others beat me to it. None the less, your retraction will be most welcome.

6. It's true. All the campaigns were asked to donate.
Dean's was the only one that did.

21. Most of the buzz I've heard in VA is Dean-centric.
All the folks from my hometown, on campus (or "grounds"), etc. Only flyers I've seen are for Dean. Kinda weird; the folks I know that support someone else (usually Edwards or Kerry) are the more moderate Dems that I usually find myself identifying with. They still seem to think Dean unelectable. I just don't see that, never did and certainly not at this point.
