Arlen Spector Cuts and Runs from Michael J. Fox and Science
From Josh Marshall's TPM:

Michael J. Fox did a campaign ad for Arlen Specter in 2004. I'd think that he owes Michael something now. I'm thinking that someone should attempt to get him on the record and demand that he speak up now. I've called Specter's Pittsburgh office, as I live here, and they say he has no plan to speak out that they are aware of. That is just plain wrong. Would you be willing to call his offices and try to find out if you can get an on the record statement?

1. Arlen Spector is a tired old fraud
I expect nothing less from that empty suit. Moreover, because he's such a complete and utter shill that if he actually stood on principle on anything, I'd be disappointed. Sometimes you have to just admire the craft that a con artist practices, while disparaging their choice of livelihood.

2. Thanks so much for these phone numbers
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 10:16 AM by Frances
I didn't get an answer when I called the Wilkes-Barre Office, but a very nice young man answered the phone at the Scranton office.

The person who answered the phone said that Arlen has not talked to the staff about this issue, but that Arlen would have to make a statement sooner or later.

The person I talked to said Arlen's office had received many phone calls about the issue.

I was emotional when speaking about Parkinson's because the wonderful mother of a childhood friend had Parkinson's as did a very dear friend of my daughter. In fact, I received a thank you from the Michael J Fox foundation within the last 6 weeks because I made a donation in lieu of sending flowers when my daughter's friend died of a very severe form of the disease.

The person I talked with said that he'd seen Limbaugh's bit just yesterday.

I think Limbaugh should be fired for what he did.

On edit: I told the person that I spoke with that I thought my daughter's friend was a Republican and that Fox was right when he said that disease in a bipartisan issue.

3. I e-mailed him yesterday
asking for the one word he could say that would stop most of this nastiness, all I got back was a form letter. Looks like he got the memo....

4. Rotsa Ruck.
I've noticed over the years that Specter has sort of a pattern...he starts out a gung ho champion of the common man, all truth justice and the American way...and then just seconds before knocking out the evil villain, he pulls his punch. It's like he wants to be a super hero, but either he doesn't trust himself at the final moment, or the evil villain somehow gets to him. Who knows.
But don't hold your breath this time either.

5. I am SO sorry I voted for him last time out.
I thought he had turned into a stand-up guy. I thought he was a moderate of the old school and would take a stand against the radical administration. I thought he had had a revelation as a result of his bout with cancer. Wrong, wrong, and wrong. I was so wrong. That chairmanship meant more to him than his principles. I hope he really enjoys what he thinks he got while he's alive, because when he dies people won't remember him well. History won't be kind.
