Bloomberg Sends Troops to Help Lieberman
In his battle for re-election to the United States Senate without the backing of the Democratic Party, Joseph I. Lieberman is deploying a secret weapon in the race’s closing days: a sophisticated operation to identify and turn out voters, courtesy of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York City.

The Bloomberg group includes several top-level operatives who played key roles in the mayor’s decisive re-election last year or who are in the administration, and have taken leaves from their jobs to work on Mr. Lieberman’s campaign.

Since Mr. Lieberman lost the Democratic primary in Connecticut to Ned Lamont, they have helped open campaign offices, devised a strategy to reach voters and are corralling enough volunteers to cover 2,800 shifts at more than 700 polling sites on Election Day, Nov. 7.

. . .

The workers on loan are the most vivid example yet of how Mr. Bloomberg, a Republican who often breaks with his party on issues, could build a permanent political apparatus to support like-minded independent candidates across the country — if not a national bid for himself.

With his re-election bid behind him, Mr. Bloomberg is relishing his role as kingmaker, endorsing Gov. Rod Blagojevich in Illinois and Gov. M. Jodi Rell in Connecticut, raising money for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in California and appearing in a television ad for Representative Christopher Shays in Connecticut. (Mr. Blagojevich is a Democrat; the others are Republicans.)

First the DLC consultants tell Lamont to go on vacation and to not actively attack Lieberman. Then the DC Dems are a no-show on their commitments to support Lamont. Now Bloomberg.

The Corporate politicians sure do want their Joementum.

1. Sometimes Bloomberg pisses me off.
Guess he wants to run for President as a Republican. I wish he would get a hobby.

3. He stuck my state with Blagojevich
and stuck the country with Arnold.

Bloomberg doesn't just piss me off sometimes. He is on my permanent pissed off list.

2. Lamont's taking advice from DLC consultants?

Also... how helpful has Senator Schumer been to the Democratic candidate in the CT senate race?

Clearly an awkward position for Schumer... given Bloomberg's active support of the non-DEM, and Schumer's ultra-closeness w. Bloomberg, et al.

A curious set of circumstances and alliances, if you ask me.

4. Yes. The day of the primary win
Hilary and Schumer gave Lamont two of the top DLC consultants. The minute they got on board the Lamont team, the campaign went quiet. Very little buzz was heard from them the whole month of September. Basically the consultants told Lamont he should tone down and act more like a "Senator". Yeah right, boring wins elections.

DLC consultants top advice to Dems is always back off and be quiet.

7. Huh? I must have missed something. Does Edwards have ties to
Bloomberg? Is there something I missed in the article or a related one? Not picking at your post, just trying to understand where it is coming from. I haven't been able to check into DU as much lately - trying to see if I missed something. I'm confused....

12. 1. Bloomberg is *extremely* tight with Schumer. 2. Schumer...
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 04:36 PM by PaulHo
... is in charge of the DSCC ( correct me if I am wrong on any of this).

Therefore, the obvious question is : how helpful has Schumer been to the Democratic candidate for Senate in CT?
