KABUL, Afghanistan — U.S. troops were not responsible for the deaths of six children killed in an attack on a suspected Taliban hideout, an Afghan official said today.

The children and two adults were crushed to death Friday night during a mission against a large arms cache in Paktia province controlled by local Taliban commander Mullah Jalani, U.S. military spokesman Col. Brian Hilferty told reporters today.

It was the second time in as many days that children died in U.S. assaults. Fifteen Afghan children have been killed, embarrassing interim Afghan President Hamid Karzai as he tries to build support on the eve of a crucial meeting to decide the country's new constitution.

In the Friday incident, U.S. ground forces and warplanes attacked a site where a house wall collapsed, crushing six children and two adults to death, Hilferty said. The bodies were discovered the next day during a search, he added.

Well, then maybe the war is not over yet in Afghanistan. In fact, maybe we have not even won yet.

That was the excuse I heard from the other dead children. The appachies fired there DU munitions, and the kids just ran into them.

Are responsible for getting out of the way America's bombs. Please give me a break!

15 kids in just a few days! And no outrage in the US. What if some other country had done this - our government would be screaming "human rights abuses"!

We fire off a bunch of shells and warheads that CAUSE the wall to fall over, but since they weren't DIRECTLY hit by the warheads, we aren't responsible? That makes no F***ING sense!

I don't think so. BTW, earlier comments from military didn't mention "seondary and tertiary" explaosions. First report said they didn't know why the wall collapsed, even though they were shelling the compound. Ugh!

Question: If 9/11 was, in a sense, blowback from supporting Afghan rebels in the 70s & 80s; what will be the potential blowback from acts like this 10-15 years after we declare victory and get the F out of Dodge?

This misadministration takes responsibility for absolutely NOTHING. What, did those children commit suicide?

"My goodness!"

"Hey, war's not a pretty thing!"

"Hey, you want the Taliban to return?"

"Hey, don't you support our troops?"

I heard an unbelievable quote from an officer in Afghanistan on last night's NewsHour.

Paraphrasing, he said that the kids shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Heartless.

The people who will write the history of this are not going to be kind to the CHIMPANZEE and Rumdumb or their hired killers and spin doctors.

I'm sorry for swearing but I'm fed up with all this crap!

Of course we're responsible! And someone should be held accountable for this. The guy in the White House who always has someone else take the fall for him!

This sickens me so much I can't even think straight.

Let us hope that everyone involved gets a conscience. I know that is a lot to ask; but may they be haunted by these children until they understand what they've done.
