NAACP asks Harris Teeter markets to stop carrying Smithfield meat

By Jesse Russell

The NAACP has joined workers at the country’s largest pork processing plant in Tar Heel, N.C. - asking Harris Teeter supermarkets to cease carrying Smithfield products. Demonstrations were held at 11 Harris Teeters throughout North Carolina. They want Harris Teeter to stop carrying the products until working conditions at the plant are addressed. Two weeks ago more than 500 workers walked off the job for two days - protesting abusive working conditions and the arbitrary firing of a number of employees. The United Food and Commercial Workers union have been trying to organize the plant for more than a decade.

4. WOW. DO you all realize how BIG this is here??????
NC is a right-to-work state. Unions are here, but don't get much done.
DO you realize,in this shitty economy, in such a blue-collar area of the state, in a right-to-work state, how BRAVE it is for these workers to do this??
Please, support this any way you can! I know that I will be.
Bless them.
