Padilla lawyers release images
Posted on Mon, Dec. 04, 2006

MIAMI - Still video images of alleged terror operative Jose Padilla in chains and wearing headphones and blacked-out goggles demonstrate the harsh tactics used by U.S. interrogators while he was in military custody as an "enemy combatant," his lawyers said in court papers.

The images, taken from an unclassified Defense Department video, show Padilla being chained hand and foot and led out of his cell by three guards dressed in camouflage and wearing riot helmets and visors. The video images are the first publicly released of Padilla's 3 1/2-year detention at a Navy brig in Charleston, S.C.

They were filed late Friday in federal court in Miami as part of an attempt by Padilla's lawyers to get criminal terrorism support charges against him dismissed, based on what they claim was treatment that amounted to torture while in military custody.

"The extended torture visited upon Mr. Padilla has left him damaged, both mentally and physically," Padilla lawyer Orlando do Campo said in one court filing. "The government's treatment of Mr. Padilla has robbed him of his personhood."

<snip> Padilla claims, among other things, that he was forced to stand in painful stress positions, given LSD or some other drug as a "truth serum," subjected to loud noises and noxious odors and forced to endure sleep deprivation, extreme heat and cold, and harsh lights.

ON EDIT: Does this guy have superpowers, like an X-men or something?

What could be the POSSIBLE explanation for the need for:

handcuffs
foot manacles
earphones to stop all sound
goggles to stop all sight
riot police with face protectors and full body armor?

2. Do we really have to wait until January to get the subpoena power in action?
These war criminals are despicable and need to be held accountable to the world. The story at HuffPo brought tears to my eyes. How can we allow this to happen even one more day? Mr Padilla is a US citizen-so this could happen to any of us. (although it happening to anyone is beyond belief!)

INDICT
IMPEACH
IMPRISON
NOW!!!!!!!!

9. Shocking? Check what they did to the Native Americans and Slaves
this is typical USSA government behavior.

Outside our borders is even worse. What RayGun and the boys did in Central America, or Nixon in Latin America for example.

12. Enemies of the state...
Our government has been doing dispicable things all over the world for decades (WHY DO THEY HATE US??!!)
Now US citizens are being marked for similar treatment under the "state security" banner.
Genuine threats should be investigated and properly prosecuted. We do not need special star chambers to deal with them. Such tactics can only denegrate the rule of law and cow the average person into accepting such extreme techniques. To many buy into the mindset of if you aren't doing anything wrong what do you have to fear? People who are swept up, detained without charges, subjected to brutalization, for being under suspicion have no recourse or hope and become like Mr. Padilla, victims who might just suffer disabling mental illness.
