Gore comments on war in Iraq

NEW YORK (AP) - Former Vice President Al Gore calls the Iraq war "the worst strategic mistake in the history of the United States."

"An utter disaster" is how he described it this morning on NBC's "Today" show, ahead of the release of the report by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

...

He says the various reviews being done by the administration all say it's a situation "where there are no good outcomes."

5. The World Trade Center would also be remained intact as well
And for New Yorkers September 11, 2001 woulda just been another day at the office..

That's the primary thing that irks me the most.

4. It was not a "mistake per se"; it was a calculated plan to get Bush** elected/
Then it turned into a bloody mess with a disaster to Iraq and to the U.S. No, it was not an error either. It was done with a purpose.

Gore To Bush On Iraq: It’s Not About You

(snip)

Full transcript:

GORE: The fact is, this is a very bad situation. Our country has to find a way to get our troops out as quickly as possible without making the situation even worse in the manner of our leaving.

LAUER: It’s described by some as cut and stay as opposed to cut and run. Does it do enough to acknowledge the results of the mid-term elections and the message voters sending this administration — if these are listened to, these recommendations?

GORE: Well, the report this morning is actually one of several studies. There is one in the Pentagon. There has been reportedly been one in the White House itself. They are all basically saying the same thing, Matt. This is an utter disaster. This worst strategic mistake in the history of the United States. We as a nation have to find a way, in George Mitchell’s words, to manage a disaster. But I would urge the president not to — to try to separate out the personal issues of being blamed in history for this mistake and instead recognize it’s not about him. It’s about our country and we all have to find a way to get our troops home and to prevent a regional conflagration there.

7. Why is he concerned that the chimp not blame himself? Is he going to be on suicide watch?
Would this be the first thing * has been forced to accept responsibility for and people think he's too fragile for that? What gives?

8. Because he's President Gore
and a true patriot. He's thinking of the country, not about Bush and his psychological problems. He KNOWS Chimpy can never admit a mistake. I think of it as "intervention," telling a maniac: look, it's not about you. We can do something about this. Basically, he's talking Bush down from the ledge.

9. Well...yes and no...
He IS President Gore, and a :patriot: but I don't think he really gives a flying BFD about Bush's state of mind right now.
He is focusing on what is important, which is managing this disaster.
Bush's state of mind and ego take a backseat to the real, concrete, bloody issue.
"This is not about you anymore. Get out of the way, and let the adults fix the mess."

10. The last thing Gore was doing was expressing concern for Smirk's fragile nature
Gore was telling Smirk to grow the f*ck up and act like an adult for a change.
