New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson: 'I Am Running' in 2008
Thursday, December 07, 2006

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is expected to formally file papers to form a presidential exploratory committee in January. But today he told FOX News "I am running," as he described the professional and personal experiences that he believes have prepared him for the job.

"I've dealt with the issues that are very important today — national security, immigration and energy," said Richardson, who was Secretary of Energy and later U.N. Ambassador during the Clinton administration.

In addition to his previous experience in the Clinton White House, Richardson believes that his Hispanic heritage will be an advantage in his campaign for the presidency.

"I am Hispanic, which I believe is an asset," Richardson said. "But I'm not running as an Hispanic, I am running as an American who is proud to be Hispanic."

Richardson plans to travel to New Hampshire, the first of the nation's states to hold a primary, the weekend after next.

6. And rightly so.
I always admired John Edwards for getting out of elected office because he knew he was running. Politicians should have the courage to either serve their masters (the people) or serve themselves in running for a higher office (but not both).

5. I've always thought he was a smart guy
but he seems to be flip-flopping on some immigration stances. Guess to court the Hispanic vote. You know the Repukes will jump on that in a second!
Unless he has a "knock-out" immigration solution, he's dead in the water.
Probably IS posturing for VP.

10. not so per Kos
Update: Richardson's campaign says that they did not announce, and that Fox is full of shit (not in those words, of course). They're putting the video of his appearance up on YouTube and I'll post it as soon as it's up.

14. The Governor's office saying he won't run does not mean he won't.
It's just backtracking. He's clearly said on national TV as I've watched that he's strongly considering running and would announce in January. So that statement doesn't mean he isn't running. My guess is he spoke to a reporter not intending it to be out yet and is now trying to put the 'hush' on it. Or perhaps he spoke in a hypothetical sense and the reporter reported it falsely as certain. We won't know either way until January probably.

15. I guess they will be posting the vid on Youtube soon so we can see for ourselves
But I hope he does run. Sorry New Mexico, but the country needs someone with his intelligence and experience in national office.

He can be not engaging sometimes when he speaks. Perhaps he can practice up a bit.
